Being from East St. Louis, I got the joke and yeah, it IS a HELL HOLE. Could have done without Gilly, thought that character was done, never found her appealing.

I liked the show. I thought it was better than some. The Gilly sketch was kind of weak but overall the show was funny. I think Seth can use a co host on Weekend Update. How about grooming Jay Pharoah? There has never been a black host on Update why not? That joke about Mary J. Blige and the Burger King commercial would've been funnier if a black person gave his perspective. Seth can only say so much without the joke being racist. Plus it will open up more subject to lampoon. Just a thought.

The 'Almost Pizza' was hilarious. I loved the 'The Manuel Ortiz Show' skit, I always laugh at the music w the crazy dancing. I'm a big fan of One Direction, so I really enjoyed them on SNL, they were fantastic. And who doesn't like Sofia!?? She's funny & beautiful.

Yeah, Vergara was just awful in the Gilly sketch. Using the same tone over and over... why did no one tell her to Forte-ify her voice?

Vergara brought excellent energy and was a perfect fit for a show that took a much needed three weeks off.

Not much disagreement with the scorecard. The "Quirky Show" was a nice sketch; hopefully it's not overused. The "WWHL" was a great new sketch; I think an easy way to mock current weekly celebs with Killam shinning as Cohen; Mckinnon's Tabetha was a great intro for her. The Pantene skit was great on many levels; Vergara's willingness to mock herself, something Lohan could have done more of; McKinnon shinned, she has a Wiig feel but a little more edge. Armisen had a great night; he genuinely was trying to connect with the cast, a nice throwback to 90's SNL.

Lastly, again, weekend update just killed, deflated the show's energy. It just signals that the show is halfway done. Myers' just doesn't have enough energy to hold a segment for that long. Drunken uncle was drawn out too long. Romney opening was probably one of the strongest Romney openings, but that isn't saying much. I know he's the frontrunner, but a Monihan Gingrich having a "rally" would be more entertaining.

Overall, I enjoyed this show. It gives me hope that SNL will end the season and possibly send off some cast mates, with great and entertaining shows. One direction was a nice musical departure from the season's underground, rock/electro/indie influence choices. Hopefully this momentum can salvage a mediocre season.

Abby Elliot is only on there because of nepotism. I wish this show was still good.

What, her father, a single-season castmember that was fired along with almost the entire cast and who says the whole year was a miserable experience for him, decided to call and demand that Lorne bring her on the show? And not her sketch-comedy experience with the Groundlings and UCBT.

She should be ahead of Charles Barkley. He had absolutely no charisma and no comic ability. Sofia at least had those qualities even if the material stunk.

I couldn't agree more,Joseph...Sophia had more energy and her skits were funnier..I thought Charles Barkley was one of the worst shows on SNL this year (just don't get Mike's rating system)

I do think Vergara was a better host than Barkley, but the Barkley show had the killer "Linsanity" sketch (remember Linsanity? That seems like three years ago) and the great Lord Wyndemere sketch. So Vergara is the better host, but I think Barkley's show happened to be better.

Anybody else see how many Vergara commercials were aired at least during the first 1/2 hour of SNL?

Yes, about 100. She was EVERYWHERE that night. It was a Sophiagasm of Sophias.

Yeah, it was Forte that made the Gilly sketches work, and without him, they are dead on arrival. This is really the first time, though, that it didn't feel like Wiig fired on all cylinders. Like she too is checking out. I hope she will be back in shape next week.

But yeah, Vergara was perfectly servicable as a host. Sure, her roles were mostly "sexy foreign lady" (and Fran Drescher), and she was hardly given the most demanding roles, but she seemed game enough for what she got.

It seemed like almost everyone were having and off-night. All in all, pretty forgettable, but nothing really bad.

P.S. Vergara's outfit in the opening monologue was fairly unforgettable. Sheesh. Makes it difficult to feel good about yourself as a mortal woman.

Sophia, yes, is an extremely beautiful woman.....AND she has a firecracker personality of charm, energy, and heart. Impossible to beat. Just accept it, like we all must do: it's a good thing. She helps make life worth living.

Could not stop laughing, love how Sofia can make fun of herself, she is a pro and hope to see her again on SNL.

I didn't mind Vergara's Fran Drescher... although "Almost Pizza" was definitely the best of the night. With that in mind, Meyers either needs to step down as Weekend Update anchor, or add a perfectly matched co-anchor. That whole middle part with "Update" is dead weight in its current form.
