Start looking at how to get around. Say you want to get to San Francisco from LA. The distance is about 450 miles. My car gets 38 mpg which means about 12 gallons of gas to drive there. At $4.19 per gallon, It will cost me $100.56 in gas to drive both ways...and I have a car to get around in when I get there. Why would you fly? You think you need to get there quicker? We don't. Stop flying, and start using cars, buses, trains, etc. Plan ahead and you can take all the baggage you want for free. Time to change things America.

Hell, then the U.S. gov. would start charging us to use the freeways, roads, streets, etc.
07:51 PM on 05/03/2012
Even with the price of gasoline being so high, it may come to a point where it is less expensive to drive to your destination.
In addition to which, you will not have the added expense of renting an automobile..

ship your stuff ups or fedex ahead of time IF you must fly, problem solved. Or, at $100.00 or more for carry-on, might just as well buy that stuff at destination.

They out to be boycotted for that move !

kailuabred - if you want to limit the shock to your company from the OPEC controlled international oil markets, refining your own Jet fuel makes incredible sense, and Delta was smart enough to see that. If YOU want to laugh at the prospect of containing or even lowering your biggest cost in operating an airline, you deserve to fail. By making their own fuel, they can save as much as 18 percent in costs. There are three more recently closed refineries to be had in California by the airlines for a pittance, and when you look at what will be saved in fuel costs after changing over to all Jet Fuel production on a full time basis, its a no brainer.

Southwest..... need I say more?
08:02 PM on 05/03/2012
And you think flying Southwest is the answer? They charge for bags as others do. If you don't believe it...compare prices. They hide the price in the fair

Actually no. When comparing prices, many times southwest is a dollar more than the prices I see listed on priceline.

Yes, you do have to say more. Stop flying entirely, and start using your car, the trains, the buses, and travel smarter and slower. Plan ahead, take your time, and get where you want to go for peanuts...which you can't get on planes any longer.

No this NOT screwing your customers. This is encouraging people to check their baggage so that we can load and unload faster. You walk on - you walk off. The plan will load and unload in 5 minutes. Instead of people bringing in huge suitcases thaey call carrying on and holding up everyone else we cano breeze through security and through the load and unload process. I say WAY TO GO SPIRIT. I like you more already!

You obviously haven't had your checked bag lost yet or had it returned damaged with missing items. It'll happen (unless, of course, your the CEO of Spirit Airlines).
But in that case, no worries....... at this rate you'll be the only passenger.

you must either have stock in Spirit, be on its board of directors or both. SHAME ON YOU! Fees are already high enough with the fuel fee, the checked baggage fees, the ticket fees, the seat fees, the ticket exchange fees, the Airport fee and so forth and so on. No wonder Southwest is making such a huge profit by sticking to a simple but innovative formula that WORKS.
06:32 PM on 05/03/2012
It's time to start charging for use of the in flight bathrooms
06:38 PM on 05/03/2012

I bought 3 tickets to look at a college last August on Spirit. In the LaGuardia, my husband began feeling unwell. The tickets were unrefundable and so my husband switched his ticket for the following day in order to meet us (at a cost of $125.00, I believe). In the end my husband ended up in the hospital for 3 days with heart issues. I called Spirit, they said it was unrefundable but with medical proof they could help me out. They refunded the fee for the change of ticket. The ticket itself, he could use for the same place (where he had no reason to be) by October or lose it. We lost it. Of course we paid a baggage fee for the carry on and if we wanted to be guaranteed a seat together (any seat) there was a fee for that too. No thanks, Spirit. Once was enough

Every passenger has an excuse. Refund for this or refund for that? This can go on and on. Read the rules......before you purchase.

You are missing the point...the greed must be stopped. Look at where we have gone in 2 years. You pay for a second bag checked or unchecked.

this is absolutedly absurd. every passenger that travels by plane, bus, or moving, must carry their belongings, even if it is on vacation, this is ridiculous, the problem is that these companies can do whatever they want, and the public can do nothing, there is no regulation on charges, we must fight back. why they charge this astronomical fees are unjustified. when will the government side with the people, instead of the GREEDY companies,

I carry a huge purse with my make-up, books, wallet, glasses, phone, medicine, first aid kit, sewing kit, life savers, hair brushes, scrunchies, personal phone book, pen, small tablet, camera, and odds & ends all the time and the only thing I add is a tank top & shorts when I travel. No way would I check my purse.

One of the main reasons I fly Southwest when I do fly, NO CARRY-ON FEES. Besides that, Southwest's reputation for service is still among the top in the industry
