Bravo Patrick

The most brave defense in any fight is in my opinion the fight for our families and their dignity.
Hoping the O'Neal family will bounce back all this bad press

I loved this article. Part of the reason is because it affirmed my view of Ryan as a guy who didn't always get everything right, but has a good heart and good intentions. I know what its like to love people that the rest of the world demonizes. Blessedly I don't have to do it in the public eye. That said, the other reason that I REALLY love this article, is because everything in entertainment media seems to be a circus these days. It's so refreshing to hear an honest voice. Doubly so because that voice ACTUALLY has first hand experience. Everyone says X or Y or Z about a celebrity, but the people directly involved almost never manage to get their version out there without some sort of spin or character assessment. It's nice to read something genuine. Thanks Patrick!!!

THAT is the best compliment a child could pay to their parent. There are monster parents out there, but most of us are figuring it out as we go along and yes, we make mistakes. To hear a child praise their parent instead of blaming them makes it all worthwhile. Your Dad must be very proud.

It is sad that articles like this one are often overshadowed by the more sensational headlines.

This is straight dope from an insider, but it won't sell magazines cause he doesn't trash his dad or his family, but defends them fiercely!

Good article Patrick. I hope your dad and your siblings realize they have you in their corner. Especially in this too often cruel world that is always trying to brak you down.

Thank you Patrick for the wonderful article. I was disappointed and disturbed by all of the trash talking about your dad. I hope this article plus your interview on Access Hollywood turns the tide of media and public opinion in your dad's favor. And kudo's to your dad for adopting the rescue dog Mozart. Those two are such good companions!!

thanks. Mozart sure does love Ryan. unconditional.

I am one among those who never once had a catch with his dad. In fact, my dad never once made time for me, busy as he was with all that existed in his small, self-centered universe. I am so glad that you wrote this piece, Patrick. I've always thought that your dad was getting a raw deal from the press and you've set the record straight. Good for you and good on you for being a loyal and supportive son. I wish you and all in your family, especially your father, the very best.

Great insight from an insider. "The Professionals" on Today were way off base. I do not think Dr. Snyderman is in touch with humanity. She can be so cruel. Donnie not usually. He was pretty bad that day. I felt sorry for Ryan. Just like Whitney and Bobby, somebody has to take the blame because people can't be responsible for their own actions. Thanks for sharing, Patrick.

I agree, thanks for reading it.

Great article in defense of your Dad and Family. I hope some of the TV shows take it to heart so that they can have more even-handed coverage rather than rushing to judgment based on sensationalist tag lines.

Maybe now they will be forced to see a different point of view. if they want to that is.

Patrick, this was wonderful to read. I pay no attention to gossip tabloids but the stories of your father keep hitting people with headlines..... whether they want to hear it or not. I would rather hear what you have to say about your family life than hear anyone else judge your family. I am so happy that you have wonderful childhood memories. Your father must be very proud of you. Good luck to you and the rest of your family.

(By the way, even "good" parents sometimes have children who make mistakes. Life happens.)

Patrick - enjoyed your article very much and BRAVO to you for standing up to the "trash talkers" that we hear on TV every day. The development of so called "news" into nothing but one big mean-spirited gab-fest..even by so-called "reputable" interviewers and shows (Yes, I'm talking about you, Barbara) has become the mainstream for TV. I would love to see someone actually put them in their place on their OWN shows..but of course they would never allow that..
So cudos to you for at least taking them to task via this blog...
and for doing so in a tasteful and classy manner
You father raised his son well..he should be proud

Thanks very much. It would be cool if "they" read it. Maybe so.

Well great job sticking up for your Dad and your family. I am glad to hear that you can resolve your feelings about all of the media hyperbole and see and hold what is real. Seems to me it could be a difficult proposal.

I must admit I had no idea any of this had occurred in the media partly because well... just look at my picture and partly because I do not watch today or read the rags you mentioned so... Never realized Ryan O' Neal was under fire so heavily. I know you cannot always blame father's for the way their children turn out. Fathers can only do the best they can to teach them, many people have to learn things the hard way. Human nature.

Well at any rate peace to you and yours and that includes your Dad. :-)

under fire is a good way of putting it. that's how I've been seeing it. thanks for reading it.
