No surprises here. In what sort of imagined universe does snitching on the rich and powerful generally work out well for the peons? The price of doing the right thing has always been very high for the individual moral actor. In the past, criticizing the Church or whatever Royal Family ruled you certainly gained you no reward. Now, doing the same regarding your employer may not cost you your life, but very likely will cost you the ability to work.

Little people cannot take on organizations in one-on-one wrestling matches. They don't have the resources or the stamina for these fights. It's part of the "Cult of the Individual" to believe that we each so are in control of things, that we have the ability to impose right conduct on wrong doers. Only organizations composed of workers can take on other organizations. If you want to fight the company, call your Union. Oh, you don't have a Union? Well, it's better then to keep your mouth shut and exercise your right to seek employment elsewhere.

And the GOP wants to do away with unions. Wake up people; this is why unions were started to begin with.

Pres. Obama and company in 2012!

A difficult pattern to break with the downward pull of both gravity and inertia. It would take many strong self-aware people to make the difference.

Very few whistle blowers do it for the money. People generally turn in the boss because of moral outrage, fear of criminal punishment or other "moral" issues. Financial reward is seldom the determining factor. Paying the price for morality or because it's the right thing to do can be very expensive. Don't expect co workers to support you. Do expect the company or agency with all it's resources to do all it can to destroy you. Sometimes though, the ability to sleep at night makes it all worth while.

I know first hand the cost in doing the "right thing". During the Fertility Fraud Scandal at UCIMC, I happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and higher ups informed me to help them get rid of my boss~ a whistle blower or I'd be out the door with her. I didn't feel it was my job to help them discredit her. I was layed off in an imaginary third layer of layoffs. but I was the only one. I have been there six years and promoted twice. I was crushed and emotionally set back but my boss, a good person was eventually physically crippled by trying to fight the big company. The years took a toll on her health and the once vibrant person was no more, both financially and physically. Atleast, I can look myself in the mirror and know that I never screwed her over to save my own skin. They couldn't take my integrity.

What makes no sense at all that Obama has prosecuted more whistleblowers than anybody before him. People with money will always succeed over what is right. Reminds me of Mafia and that is the USA.

Don't let defeatist headlines keep you from blowing a whistle. Yes the wealthy and their friends the judges have it all stacked against you, but standing up for what is right is a good feeling. Don't be a robot and take it laying down. Fight corruption at every turn!

Only when people band together. But the majority of souls are too busy or too weak from fear.

That's why people band together in unions. That's also why the very idea of unions is so hated by big companies. In union there is strength.

Why is there an assumption that they only way things work best is if someone is not playing by the rules in place?

That's why everyone loves the new TV show "Revenge" - learning new ways to supply justice in a system overtaken by extremism and nihilism - ANYTHING goes to get the hands on cash...

After spending 40+ years in the business one learns from an early age that turning a superior in for a crime or fraud will be more painful for you that the perpetrator. White collar crime criminals are very seldom caught.
