If she wanted a cat couldn't this loser walk into an animal shelter , or an aspca , she could get more than one geez
08:56 PM on 06/05/2012
I think the whole point of her stealing was that she didn't want to pay (obviously). Animal shelters, the humane society...etc. are pretty expensive AND they require background checks to make sure the animal will be taken care of. It can be a very long process.

Mitt Romney got in trouble when he was 12 years old for killing and skinning his neighbor's cat.

He killed the cat, but had the butler skin it.

Leave the woman alone. Its ridiculous the prices the want for these animals in the first place. This society would rather see animals die before they give them away to people. I am not paying $500 for a shelter dog, there are to many in need of homes and billions of cats who are homeless, this woman did us a favor. Good for you girl

Yes yes. Let's excuse a crime and applaud her actions. I'll remember to do the same thing when your house is robbed or your car is stolen.

I can pretty much assure you that she didn't steal the kitten to keep as a pet.

Stealing an 8-week old Persian is a FELONY, since the value is anywhere between $800 and $1,500. You'd think Petland would be all over trying to prosecute this...person...once they find her. I own 2 Persians myself and was lucky enough to find a local breeder who had decent prices, and papers for both. I've seen them online, and not even as purebred as ours for $3-5K!
Someone please turn "Miss Thang" in, the kitten deserves better!

Only if it's registered with TICA, CFA or other sanctioning. Most people think because the cat has a pushed in face and long hair that it is a persian.
10:23 AM on 06/06/2012
This was a rescue cat. Very much doubt it was really a Persian or registered.
04:19 PM on 06/05/2012
Pet stores shouldn't be selling cats and dogs anyway. Go to a responsible breeder if you must have a particular breed or, even better, rescue one from a shelter.

Read the article. This was a 'rescue' kitty, as are the pets in most pet stores.

Responsible breeder? Millions of homeless animals are euthanized every year while intentional breeding compounds the already exorbitant problem of pet overpopulation. This lady isn't looking for a pet, she is looking for something that she can sell or breed/sell because it is easier than going out and getting an real job. They should have locks on these cages and I for the record am no fan or stores selling pets in the first place becuase...they will sell to anyone who has enough money to buy. Most shelters require a background check to make sure they are not adopting to crazy people who will harm them.

where do people GIVE AWAY pupies and kittens ??? all we have around here is shelter rescue fully grown cats and dogs, mostly pit bulls and cats 8 yrs or older at every shelter, newspaper ad you find or search online, trying to find a puppy or kitten or even young animan can be easy true but they cost lots of $$ even if they are not purebred and some claims they have to be rid of them by tommorow.

She didn't even pick up the kitten properly! It looked like she picked it up by the scruff of the neck. This is not the proper way to pick up and carry a cat. One holds the cat to one's body, supporting the hind legs with one's hand. The other hand/arm holds the cat against one's body. This method makes kitty feel secure, assuming that the cat trusts the person.

Since when can't you pick a kitten up by the scruff of the neck? Thats what the momma cat does..Thats how everyone does it...
06:58 PM on 06/05/2012
You're a human, you're not a cat, you don't know how to properly pick up the cat by it's neck sine you're a human, and you have long fingers, not the wide jaw of a cat
12:40 PM on 06/06/2012
My vet picks it up by the neck like the mother, but does not suggest lay people pick them up this way because they usually do in incorrectly.

I've never understood the need for a pet store. Pet SUPPLY store, yes. Pet store? No.

How many people have you run across in your lifetime that have a litter of puppies or kittens they'd gladly let you have for free? Mostly, responsible pet owners simply want to know the "baby" they are giving you will have a good home for life.

There's always someone trying to give away puppies or kittens. Check the newspaper. Or, just wait for the next stray. If you must have a kitten or puppy, as opposed to an adult, go to your local shelter and give a nice animal a home.

If she were really an animal lover that's what she would have done. I don't hold much hope for the poor Persian in question.

Me to I used to have a ferret she had this really cool game called steal my wallet and hide it. I thought it would be somthing funny like that but now I am let down.
02:42 PM on 06/05/2012
how was she oing to get him out the store
03:48 PM on 06/05/2012
The store employees would likely assume she legitimately adopted the kitten, assuming she acted naturally, unless they saw her remove the cat from the cage.
