Any parrot will do well with a human companion, if it is fed proper food and treated well. They need a lot of attention, which is why you shouldn't have too many other pets. Most people don't have the time or patience to do it right.

I agree. Parrots should never be taken on as fashion accessories. They also live a long time so they also need commitment from their human companion.

Only pirate captains are qualified to take on parrots as pets.

this is not quite true from the animal rights group.
it they animals are well socialized and given plenty of attention, they are excellent pets. the thing most people don't realize is that larger parrots have the intelligence of a 5 year old child. they must be entertained, and have their lives enriched. if you get the bird, put it in a cage and ignore it, it will do exactly that, mutilate itself, which sadly is what does happen to a lot of them. if you are going to get one of these animals, it MUST become part of the family.

You're right, it is possible, if the whole family, the neighbors, and the landlord are down with it, and the owner has the time, space, and financial resources to deal with it. The problem is, one of the most common reasons for surrendering a parrot is that the owner is too old or infirm to take care of it, or dies. Adults buy baby parrots, and parrots live as long as people, so the math is simple. The reason animal rights groups are so adamant against parrots as pets is that the vast majority of people cannot do the things you mention, and they do not think to provide for the bird after they die.

Not at that weight. The animal rights groups would cry foul for the danger that would put the shark in.
