I just watched it and I LOVED it. I don't care if the writing came off Shakespearian and the acting was a touch from the William Shatner School of Acting. It touched my heart and gave me hope, however unrealistic. I NEED that hope to keep fighting the good fight. I NEED to know there are others out there who care about the same things I do and care this fiercely. Having spent a few years in control rooms, yeah, that is pretty much what it is like, only usually without the “truthiness”. It will be a weekly staple for me to keep the faith. I NEED them on that wall!

Good points -- sorry this show, at least on its first run, was such a disappointment as I had high hopes. But when they spend, what was it, nearly 7 minutes making you watch some absurd conversation between two of the key actors, that could have been cut to a quarter of that, you know things aren't going to be good. I was tempted to hit the OFF button but suffered through...

The show is a Liberal / Progressive wet dream as to how things should have been -- in a totally Liberal / Progressive world.

Well then, where are the conservative TV dramas? There are conservatives in Hollywood with deep pockets. Why don't they produce some shows with a conservative theme? If they can't get shows on network or cable TV, there are other options like Hulu, Netflix, Roku, etc. If conservatives can produce good shows and can hold a sizeable audience, Hollywood will scramble to get as many on the air as they can. It's really not true that Hollywood is liberal. Hollywood is about the bottom line and what sells. And liberalism seems to sell better than conservatism--or at least until Aaron Sorkin's conservative counterpart proves otherwise.

Hmmmm. Actually the most watched news station in this country is decidedly conservative.

I would have hoped that most of the material Sorkin deals with was covered in Journalism 101, but it probably falls under Business Ethics and the CEO's of these media companies took the Cliff-notes version.

What I had pointed out to me this weekend was the "Production Values" of several of the cable news shows. Chris Matthews show (which you were on), uses cameras invented before HD...and it shows. I'm more content oriented but with my new TV, you guys were a little fuzzy. My friend had me tune to Fox, and sure enough, the content sucked but they had a beautiful picture.

Anyway, nice write up. But no mention of "The American President"?

While the critics hate it, everyone I have spoken to about the show loves it. I don't get HBO, so I can't weigh in. The media is in the middle of a major transformation that no one has any control over, and their nervousness shows in everything from political coverage to criticism of other media.

Sorkin is a genius, he is a liberal, and he is fair game for criticism, but he does tend to produce entertaining television. I was a huge West Wing fan.

Exactly. Can't trust a lot of media to fairly critique a media critique.
