I wonder how many of those killed and injured support the NRA?
02:45 PM on 07/21/2012
Silly, If you were there in that theatre, with a gun in your hand, would not start popping off shots. The natural reaction even without training is too croutch and wait. This what anyone being shot at who has a defense would do. Without a gun the natural reaction is to run or freeze up. Your argument is silly and divorced from any reality.

Answer this, if you were in that theatre, would you rather be armed or wait for the police? Would you prefer a fighting chance or lay down and hope that you and you loved ones dont get shot?

Its a psychosocial isssue and has to be recived so
02:13 PM on 07/21/2012
The federal government of the United States knew this attack was coming. On May 17, 2012, the Department of Homeland Security said that theaters are going to be terrorists' targets. Why would "terrorists" target movie theaters where no cameras film? And where people generally turn their communications' devices off? Don't "terrorists" like to film their exploits and post them on the internet? Barack Hussein Obama is a bloodthirsty politician and a conartist. If you go to the movie theater anytime before the election, I suggest you go armed or risk becoming a sacrificial lamb for "liberty."

And you need medical attention Meds run out?
03:03 PM on 07/21/2012
If medication makes me a sheep like you, no, I definitely don't need that.  Don't you see what they are doing?  They are already talking about new gun laws.  They are trying to disarm us.  There are already conflicting stories.  One witness said that he saw the guy open the back door and let someone in.  Just do not accept as gospel everything the media and the government tell you.  There is a lot going on that you do not know about.  I suggest you educate yourself.  Start with this Fox News video about Israel's connection to all this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJyCAZGRpf8

Gang bangers have changed the face of America, people are afraid to walk the streets at night and doors have double locks. But a new banger has entered the American scene, he is the Crowd banger. Let us pray that Holmes is the last of this new type of banger, if not we will all stay in the basement watching the world from the Internet.

Gang hanger are you serious? Did you read the article. The shooter was one lone coward with a bullet proof vest. IDK what a crowd banger is but this does not look like a "gang" related shooting. This could be blamed on a number of thing such as violence on tv and movies and the lack of good gun control laws.

Why not just regulate guns strongly LIKE IN OTHER COUNTRIES so people like this CAN"T GET THEM. Then we don't have to live in fear of disturbed citizens.,

Disturbed citizens and guns are everywhere. The tooth paste is out of the tube and there is no way of putting it back.

I strongly agree. Also, we need to start redoubling our efforts to rebuild the country's mental health system, too.

I'm sure the donations to the NRA PAC is up today so the nuts can protect their right to take away your right to be safe in public.

all the comments from the gun nuts on this situation are unnerving.  I'm convinced this guy was banking on getting return fire, and a person for him to shoot at, or maybe their spouse, or children.
02:03 PM on 07/21/2012
This is undeniably a terrible tragedy as have been all the mass murder shootings in the past. The worse tragedy is that 1 month, 6 months, a year from now this is going to happen again and again and again, until the useless congress does something about gun control. Thus another reason to re-elect Obama, and elect a filibuster-proof democratic congress so that we can pass meaningful gun control laws. As long as the NRA controlled repubs are running things nothing is ever, ever going to change.
03:04 PM on 07/21/2012
A tragedy is something considered unavoidable. This is societal negligence and cowering under the arm of the NRA. There is a difference.
04:15 AM on 07/22/2012
There are meaningful gun laws in Mexico; why don't you pass the weekend in Juarez and see how effective they are and how people walk the streets without fear.

From Richard Florida's fascinating article "The Geography of Gun Violence":

"On the average gun violence was higher in states w low incomes. Similarly gun violence was less likely in states with more college graduates and stronger knowledge based economies. Gun violence was also higher in states that tend to vote Republican."

Interesting stuff, thanks. I've always suspected that income does have something to do with not only gun violence, but crime in general, and this is just one more piece of the puzzle. =)

And I bet people with low incomes commit more robberies as well...

I believe in the 2nd Ad; however, we Americans who are Law Abiding Citizens sometimes need to relinquish a "sliver" of freedom to curtail the rights of maniacs; some of the more deadly weapons that are design to kill SO MANY in just a few minutes should be banned or at least subjected to EXTENSEIVE checks and registery...as well as magazine clips that are also designed to hold extra rounds without reloading. I know that it will not be the complete solution but something has to be done....candle light vigils don't solve the problem...we Americans LOVE freedom of speech but even that is curtailed in certain situations. The source of OUR problem lies within the "hallowed" halls of the NRA. The NRA has become much TOO influential, in that it can resist the smallest of reforms thru the propaganda of fear and paranoia...it's time for sane politiians to rise up and take action common sense action!
03:09 PM on 07/21/2012
de Tocqueville made one of the most trenchant comments about America ever. We don't know the difference between FREEDOM and LICENSE. Freedom is having a relationship of my desires to that of the well being of the collective. License is doing whatever I damn well please. Clearly the NRA, Republican party and gun lovers do not understand the distinction. Nor does the financial sector and most of Corporate America.

Maniacs. How do you spot a maniac? This shooter had no criminal or psychiatric record. He had a single speeding ticket. Nobody, but I mean nobody who is not a police officer or a member of the military should be able to purchase body armor, tear gas canisters, assault weapons, or large amounts of ammo. The politicians won't rise up until the citizens do. I, personally, sent my Congressman and my two state senators today to tell them that I will no longer vote for anyone who accepts campaign money from the NRA. This is the first move we can all make. There are petitions being circulated online as well.

THAT is my point exactly...this guy was a law abiding citizen up until the second he inacted this tragedy...so there is NO way that authorities can prevent this from happening UNLESS there is a comprehensive overhaul of "some" of the gun laws.  I'm not cynical but unfortunately it's going to take many more body bags or perhaps body bags with the dead childrend of congress TO ACT.  That is just the simple honest truth...

Do you really want to go back to Dodge City and Tombstone where everyone carried a gun?

I have zero problem with gun ownership, I own 2 and will keep them regardless of laws.
and the gun has little to nothing to do with this crime.
In fact it may have saved lives, if this guy had not brought a single gun but instead used explosives he would have killed FAR more people.

The solution is not to ARM EVERYONE and just say fend for yourself and learn to quick draw.
The solution is to get rid of the REASON for these situations.

Such as Universal Healthcare which gives everyone FREE mental health care.

Get rid of Tpublicans in Congress so that progressive democrats can start passing real job creating bills such as hiring millions to re build our failing infrastructure.

We already have enough gun laws, just don't have the cops to enforce them which is also a problem caused by Tpublicans.

The Mayor is working hard with Hollywood to get to the bottom of the barrel. I mean 'of this senseless tragedy'.

blah. 12 people dead and next weekend, a tribute to the fallen and 1 billion dollars, the biggest delayed opening weekend in Christian Bale's life.

He is in the bathroom, I tried knocking, he is just in the bathroom. He keeps saying, "I'm IN here."

Is that your solution, praying? Did God choose which ones died, which ones would be paralyzed and which ones would survive? Did God decide that the 6 year old should die?

Is that your solution? Ridiculing how someone chooses to deal with a horrific tragedy?

Your solution is divisive and cruel and FAR less productive than someone who prays.

In follow up to my previous comment I would like to state that if people believe these are nonmilitary clones that is way off the mark. Many manufacturers are selling their excess inventory since the war ended and in some states allowing Law Enforcement weapons to be sold in the semi auto form. You can look up on the Internet how to convert them and in the case of CAR-15's it is not hard. 13 dead and 50+ wounded? Even as a life long NRA member and Republican I cannot condone this senseless violence. To my fellow NRA members go ahead and scream your rights are being taken away because my opinion is that you do not need these short collapsible assault weapons or bombs or full auto for that matter.

It's amazing the numbers of people who invoke gawd at this time.

Humans can improve the situation if we want to. Humans can work to better the planet. Humans can help to make a cultural shift that enforces that violence is not the answer to personal problems.

But it won't happen in the USA any time soon. They believe in Limbaugh, becoming rich without regard to others or the ecosystem, taking when giving is the answer, and they even voted for Dubya. That culture is not evolving to a better place.
