Honestly, do we really need the tone with the comments on Cindy McCain. I think she looks good for her age. I don't care about the state of their marriage and plus... my side won. Let's just get over it and be happy winners.

We are estatic !! I think it is Cindy and John who haven't been able to withdraw from the campaign. As the years move on and so much more is accomplised for the good fo AMERICA and the world, at peace, sharing, loving - getting better educated on all fronts, maybe then they will realize it is all for the best.

I have been very impressed with the Clintons moving forward personnae, they are out there doin' right by America and the world and Obama gets to lead and all is well. It can be done.

Let's not forget the Republican meat grinder they've been through. They keep their chins up.

Thank you for saying that, it gives me hope that there are still some good folks over here, but it seems as if you are in the minority on this site. A lot of vile commentary from the tolerant compassionate left.

Well she was there but if she was happy about it, she forgot to tell her face.

Cindy and John, the happy couple.

They never looked happy on the campaign trail. Very cold body language between the two of them.

This is my gauge that Geitner is doing something correct! He is not giving in to the cheats on wallstreet and all the other financial brain that causes this mess. We all have to bite the bullet and let this ride and wait for the compotents put in play to work. It is still amazing that no distractorsone are you are calling on all the bankers that took bonuses from a faiing institute to return them, for jail time for all the banks that roll the dice on banks and other entities that took on these risky deriviates w/o the insurance or cash backing in the case of a collapse. You don't want to assist the middle class by assisting GM or with mortages (mainstreet) however, Geitner should get the boot because he has not given wall street a silverbullet to get rid of their bad debt and decisions. It is absolutely amazing to think the money that would be thrown at Wallstreet and other private entities that support the repurg if John McCain was the president. It would really be a mess.

If the White House could speak, it would probably scream out a joyful cry of relief. "Thank heaven and good riddance to the smell of old stale and rusty farts, that came from people who seemed to hate ordinary Americans.. And now we can breath and exhale the sweet and fresh aroma, that comes from our new occupants, who love and cherish the American people".

I agree. Your comment was baseless and nonsensical. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out when someone doesn't like you, and these people hate ordinary Americans.

Looks like you probably do too.

I like Obama's strategy for creating bi-partisanship. It's hard to spew bile about someone if you know him or her personally. My understanding is that a lot of the stridency of the past twenty years came about when senators and House members stopped socializing after work. Reagan and Tip O'Neil were famously friendly despite being political opponents. With any luck, all this socializing will increase the amount of respectfulness in public debates between members of the opposing parties. Better yet, there will be less time spent politicking and more time legislating and performing the statecraft for which Congressmen and -women are elected.

I agree heartily. I really like how determined he is to keep the lines of communication open between both sides, unlike Bush who only socialized, if at all, with those who believed as he did.

Rethugs show up to eat the food, smile in Pres Obama's face, then laugh on the way out at his gesture. Pres Obama, they're not going to support any of your policies. I wish you would stop trying so hard.

Trying hard is brilliant. It makes the people who resist look bad to the center left and right who swung the election to the Democrats. Optics. All optics.

I'm glad to see Cindy at the first? of what I hope will be many of these dinners - Can you imagine how uncomfortable Republican social events must have been over the years considering the way they treated anyone who did not goose step? I think she's now in a mixed crowd that with hope may become one open to a range of ideas - and possibly foster friendships and understanding across the isle.
02:22 PM on 03/05/2009
I think it is wonderful John and Cindy McCain came as a couple. I know she is not very comfortable with the Washington crowd, however, the Obama's are Real people and I am sure Mrs Obama made Cindy feel quite welcome. It's a great thing to see the White House opened up for ALL People of America. The Obama's are truly real great American People and represent the great hearts and hospitality that we Americans are known for all over the world. It is quite remarkable we have a young couple to lead our country who could feel quite at home dining with the poorest of people and dine with royalty and be quite comforable in each situation. Really quite amazing!

Yes they do and when combined with political savvy what we have is a really effective President and First Lady team on the job.

I have a hunch she wears low necklines because John wants her to. A trophy wife is supposed to look like one, after all.
