Really, you know the views of other companies? As a Boston mayor wants to ban Chick-Fil-A from doing business in the city, that Totalitarian approach ought to concern us. Who are the tolerant ones again? But the historical parallel is a bit troubling as the Nazis did something similar to the Jews in Germany. From 1931-2 SA “brownshirt” thugs physically prevented customers from entering Jewish shops, windows were systematically smashed and Jewish shop owners threatened. In Christmas 1932, the central office of the Nazi party organized a nation-wide boycott.

Fanned and faved. I am in full support of gay rights, INCLUDING Gay Marriage, but like you I find these intolerant & strong armed methods of achieving them completely wrong. One does not breed tolerance through intolerance. What they are doing is not supporting diversity. They are getting rid of dissenting opinion & opposition which is the OPPOSITE of diversity.

The correct response should have been NO politician uses the power entrusted to them to persecute anybody over their beliefs because our Constitution gives us the right to freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Now, if said politician wishes to boycott a company because of the owner's beliefs, that is perfectly acceptable and that is about as far as a politician is allowed to take a stance.
08:58 AM on 08/01/2012
I don't understand what everyone's problem is. The stores are owned by franchisees, not the ceo who spoke out against gay marriage. I haven't heard of any instances where a gay person has been refused service, or has not been hired due to their orientation. If people are going to boycott or refuse to allow this company to operate due to the CEO's religious views, then any restaurant or business that is owned by muslims should also be given the same treatment - the punishment for homosexuality in islam is death. Perhaps every person who is going to boycott Chick-fil-a should stop driving their vehicles and heating their homes because you are supporting opec countries, which are mostly islamic.

You know, you might succeed in destroying Chik-fil-a and the Christian family which built it but you won't get away with it. The Cathys are very good people, they are God's children. God will judge the people who attack this family and he will be their executioner as well.

Unless you don't believe in god. In that case, the only people to judge the Cathys and their hatred are us.

We the People want New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to stop abusing her power and persecuting Christians. We the People want New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to stop destroying our Constitional rights to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of thought. We the People want New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to be brought up on charges of treason for abusing the power entrusted to her to destroy our basic human rights.

Diversity huh? Damned the hypocracy. It stinks to high heaven. I wonder if they'd be as judgemental against a muslim or even athiest owned establishment espousing their values? Somehow I seriously doubt it.

The president of Chick-fil-A voiced a position that was essentially in line with the views of the President of the United States until about three months ago. It is also a view that many Americans hold, whether we agree with it or not. He didn't bar LGBT people from entering his stores or otherwise discriminate against them in any legal sense. I don't happen to agree with the Chick-fil-A stance, but elected officials seriously need to get a grip. This victimology and identity politics is ridiculous and demeaning to all.

How much money did the President of the United States donate to hate groups and other organisations that are trying to limit the civil rights of some of the citizens of this country? He publishes his tax returns, so you can go check it out. I'm anxiously waiting to hear this.
02:11 AM on 08/01/2012
idk about "hate groups"
02:17 AM on 08/01/2012
Oh, I see. So the litmus test as to whether someone can be illegally deprived of their first amendment rights is the amount of money they put behind their political speech. How "progressive" of you.

Remember, not everyone believes that gay marriage is a civil right. Regardless of whether or not we agree with this stance, people have the right to articulate it and to form groups to advance their beliefs. Not everything you disagree with can be fairly labeled a "hate group." Your sophistry, while impressive, makes no difference.

Liar. New talking points today?

Obama did not give millions of dollars to hate organizations to spread lies and defame millions of American citizens.

Chick-Fil-A did, and does, and is proud of funding hatred and lies.
03:16 PM on 08/01/2012
What is it with you folks on here and throwing around the word "liar". I cannot tell you how many times someone has referred to me expressing an opinion they do not like as a "lie." It's an odd sort of intellectual insecurity. I don't agree with the vast majority of the people who comment on here, but I would never think to call their comments "lies." Most people arrive by their views honorably, and not everything is a conspiracy, you loveable goof.

NYU can choose whether they keep the franchise in or not. If they choose to let them stay, there will be demonstrations on campus that they don't want to have. It's a private university.

And what if one of the stores contributed to Nazi organizations? What if one of the stores promoted the KKK?

Chick-Fil-A donates millions of dollars to organizations who lie, repeatedly and baldly, about LGBT people and who work diligently to deprive us of our rights. Other organizations they support call for deporting all gays, others provide totally bogus "reparative therapy" that doesn't work, isn't supported by science, and even does harm to those who undergo it.

This is not about religious freedom. This is about hate, lies and harm.

And you support those?

For all of the people who are yelping about Chick-Fil-A and their "anti-gay" stance, why not allow people to make their own decisions? I think gays and their supporters are just as intolerant as the people they're accusing. What's wrong, they don't want to know how many people actually DO support marriage between a man and a woman? Why does supporting traditional make someone homophobic? Everyone has a right to believe in what they want to believe in. Anyone or any group of people who try to force their agenda, philosophies and ideologies down someone's throat, is wrong. Allow people to make their choices about where they want to eat and what they perosnally believe in. As long as Chick-Fil-A isn't breaking Federal law and isn't discriminating against customers and employees, then they should be allowed to run their establishment anywhere they choose. When local, state and federal officials start injecting their personal feelings into business decisions, then they're setting themselves up for a major legal battle. People, you can't have it both ways...you can't yell intolerance when you're intolerant yourself.

Leave the Chik-Fil-A on campus.

GIve the students a choice. If they buy your propaganda, they will eat elsewhere.
If your ideology prevails, the Chik-Fil-A on campus will not make money and will leave.

Let the students decide.

Seems you are afraid to let it play out.

LGBT-ers tend to be afraid to let it play out. They do not desire to let the people or the marketplace decide; they want people in power to subjugate organizations like Chick-fil-A as well as the common man into accpeting their lifestyle choice.

What an absurd statement. You would put the rights of Americans up to the market to decide?

In which case, African-Americans would still be slaves, women would still be prevented from voting, children would be working 15-hour days in sweatshops, and millions of gays would have been put in concentration camps.

The marketplace should NEVER NEVER NEVER have anything to do with essential civil and human rights.

Are we afraid of the marketplace in human rights? You bet. That's how you get the Taliban, that's how you get Iran and that's how you got Nazi Germany.

CFA donates to organizations that cause emotional and spiritual abuse of LGBT victims, like Exodus international. When not eating a chicken burger leads to the death of a friend, then you can get back with me on how this is a public opinion choice.
