I didn’t march one inch, one foot, one yard, for a man to marry a man, and a woman to marry a woman" ?????

First: You are a liar, but then so are most Christians.

Second: Yes, protestors in the 1950's and 1960's were protesting against OPPRESSION !!!!

Third: A government that restricts who can marry whom is guilty of oppression !!!!

Fourth: The fact that you are a liar and lack the cognitive ability to understand what other fought for in your name is quite sad.

Five: Hey bozo, care to state how much you fleece your flock for every Sunday ????

Just LGBT people's experience, sadly. You're welcome to display some honesty, though.

How many Christians do you know calling themselves Christians (followers of Christ) and who at least try to follow all the teachings of Christ ? I know two (used to be three, but one of them died). And I know a lot of people who call themselves Christians and are anything but.

That's the first lie most "Christians" tell you. Can you dispute that ?

I find it offensive blacks are discriminating against anyone period!!! Any minority who has been discriminated against has a lot of daYum nerve!! Very hypocritical and I just take offense. Not our business what folks do as long as they don't maim, kill or inflict intentional harm or purposely offend their fellow man by slander and other means. Cruel is just cruel and discrimination is simply CRUEL in any form!!!

I find it offensive when anyone discriminates. But I am not going to single out black people, because that would be racist, and as i was saying, I find discrimination offensive

This whole thing is a MESS. Obviosuly he allegedly lied and he should be ashamed on top of being a homophobe. But as a Black Gay Man, I want to make clear of something. In the Gay community. The whole thing about NOM and the Black church is NOT a surprised. Gay bloggers always knew whenever they posted anything about Black christian homophobes, the racist comments from the gays went into the 100's of comments. Do you know how that makes Black gays feel to read their hate from within a community the claims to have none? (Queerty, Towleroad)

So lets not make it seem as if there is all this LOVE in the gay community. The NOM issue had been exposed. But biasness in the LGBTQ Comm has been around forever. It has recently calm down after Pres Obama & The NAACP endoresed marriage equality. Don't get it twisted! So William Owens 'alleged lying' is no different than what we Black Gays are constantly told in anger over homophobic comments from Blacks about all these LGBTQ Folks who defiantly matched in the south for Civil Rights but yet no one has mentioned any names of these people. Bayard not included,

In many respects, the black community has been the most vicious toward LGBT people.
It IS worse coming from them, because they should know better, and because so many people, including the LGBT community, fought and took a beating for them first. Don't defend them. The race card should NOT be played here.
02:11 AM on 08/11/2012
When did Homosexuals fight and take beating for me?
10:24 AM on 08/12/2012
As a (visibly at least) white man, the view of it I take is that the white male community has been culpable of racism against basically every imaginable group, as well as terrible extremes of sexism. We tell ourselves, and hope that we're being truthful when we do so, that we are no longer racist and sexist, but our history of being the oppressor should make us, if anything, more careful to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

So you might say that black people should know better because they've been victims of oppression themselves, but I'd suggest that it is also true that white people should know better because we have been oppressors before and seen where it leads and the harm that comes of it.

I'd further suggest that the comment that we'll get nowhere playing the race card is undermined by your statement that homophobia is worse when it comes from black people. If you don't want race brought into the discussion, than don't bring race into the discussion.

Ok. Honest question here. Please be patient.

Do you *really* think white queer people are treating screaming black hae-preachers any differently than we treat white screaming hate-preachers?

What if it's actually about what's actually said and done?

I'm not saying there's no such thing as a racist LGBT person, but id that 'divide' *really* as big as NOM wants to try and make it?

(And, to be brutally honest about what the boys go through? This 'racial divide' among the gay *boys* actually seems to involve a lot of black guys claiming 'down low' straight privilege as an excuse to get whatever they want on their own terms and then cry 'racism' if that's not treating someone right. Not all, but too many. I mean, defending hate preachers like that makes you a better black person? Forget about it. One of my dearest friends was and hopefully still is a gay black non-Christian guy, and he was the first to point that out to me like twenty five years ago.

People playing 'racial division' like that makes it OK for black guys to enforce the closet on others. I mean. Hey, back then we all got in the Klan's teeth and never said the word 'gay' about it. It was just what to do.

I'm Irish, and I don't like it when Protestants go after the Church like *that,* but that doesn't make the Church *right,* never mind 'Not getting virulently-worse and political about it.'

What division? Who wants that?

I'm sorry but this is the most pathetic form of yellow journalism I've seen. How can someone "allegedly lie" about something? That means the writer don't have their ducks in the row!

Now this whole "recollection" thing - who remembers something from the 1950s? Many Blacks as well as many Jews and Italians and others marched and no one can "recollect" them either.

I don't care about anybody wanting to villify this man but at least have some real journalism skills before writing this kind of nonsense.
10:48 PM on 08/10/2012
Uneducated, eh?

It is alleged that he is lying. That's the report.
11:15 PM on 08/10/2012
"Now this whole "recollection" thing - who remembers something from the 1950s?"

That's where historical records come in, so you don't have to remember, you can just look it up. The Civil Rights protest is one of the most heavily documented movements in world history. Yet some of the organizers of those events and some of those who documented them have no record of this guy taking part in them.

This conservative Republican pastor and Republican so-called Christians like him are preaching the OPPOSITE of Jesus' teachings. Jesus didn't sit with the Pharisees and judge, he sat with common folk and taught them that it is not their place to judge..it is his alone!!!

He did not instruct the church or its clergy to go around criticizing, condemning, and complaining.
He taught 3 things that this pastor and others like him have completely abandoned...

1) Jesus said: "Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter"

2) “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

3) Jesus also taught us: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
