It's mental roller-derby in here!
09:13 PM on 08/22/2012
Of course he saw mental health professionals before he went and shot up a theater. His defense was as meticulously planned as the shootings themselves, as well planned as the bombs set up in his house. He reached out to mental health professionals - studied and practiced catatonic moves to show you in court - long before the arrests, remember, he studies neuroscience...
Its all a well planned, well orchestrated defense. An act.
He is a smart. long range planner who knows right from wrong.
I hope Colorado juries are not asleep at the wheel....

could not have said this any better.

Amen lets get rid of him useless

Why is it that most of the "Huffers" posting ideas for savage revenge against James Holmes sound even MORE dangerous than he is? Hmmmm.............

Talk is cheap, especially on the internet, where everyone is brave as brass and would have stopped the killer with their bare hands.

My oppinion he planned so well that he wanted the dr's to be noted so if and when he was caught for the act he would be able to get off for pleading insantity...That's what people think is an easy way of getting out of wrong doing say they wasn't in the right mind. But really if you are or not in the right mind you still know what your doing! Your not brain dead!

In your unprofessional, uninformed, unknowing opinion and ignorance when it comes to mental illness. That is unfortunate. Unfortunate because you see it will be people like you who will be on the jury. Uninformed, uneducated about what mental illness is and isn't, hence ignorant when it comes to judging. Most will conclude as you have that "he's playing everyone like a fiddle". But are you sure? Or will you be condemning one who is ill? I do NOT say that he should be set free. I do NOT say that he should not be locked up. But I DO say that if he is indeed psychotic he should receive the necessary care and treatment that we as a civilized society should provide for every person who is ill.

You can't tell me that if he did in fact see three different mental health professionals that one of them didn't see or know that he was in trouble and needed help. And for them to say well he's not our problem any more because he dropped out of school and we didn't have to report it or follow up with him - is truly negligent - and I can see why the school has hired an attorney...

I would hate to think that so many people LOST their lives...because a mental health professional didn't want to be bothered with follow up if they truly knew he was in trouble and a danger to others.

You may hate to think that way, but the facts may force you to! I wont second guess another professional because I wasn't there. However, if this young man is as disturbed and psychotic as he "appears" to be, it should have been noted, and action should have been taken. If however, this terrible tragedy was a result of an unpredictable psychotic episode, then perhaps there was no warning. Right now, your guess is as good as mine! One thing that seems certain, this man is very, very sick.
09:32 PM on 08/22/2012
There is an old saying "closing the barn door, after the horse gets out". That is what happens, in so many of these horrible situations. As you say, if he appeared to be disturbed and psychotic, when seeing these "professionals", why wasn't action taken before lives were lost?

sieiantn:  You make a good point but I just feel it might not have been an unpredictable - sudden episode...because he was so methodical and precise in the planning that took weeks and weeks to orchestrate...I maybe could agree more that it was just a sudden break or episode had it not been so meticulously planned out in every detail...being so premeditated just makes me think that somebody had to have picked up on something...and yes, I am not a mental health professional...but I think professionals know if someone is seeking you out for help - you've got to be alert enough to be looking for signs of trouble...asking questions to determine how much trouble this person is in...we don't know..we are all guessing at this point...

You have no idea what sort of lengths extremely ill people will go to to obey their delusions. Or how easy it is to buy weapons and ammunition. Just pull up a web page, click, done.

"unnamed sources"
At any cost lets just throw out information and hope it sticks.
08:50 PM on 08/22/2012
I don't care if he saw 20 mental health professionals and they prove he has 6 demonic entities living inside him. He had enough sense to purchase guns, ammo and plan the attack on innocent people. The fathers and mothers of the victims should be turned loose on this degenerate in a small cell so they can avenge the senseless killings. He needs to be eliminated from this society.

But if they *actually* did prove he had 6 demonic entities...think of that would mean.

No seriously.

Just proving they exist.

And you wouldnt care. :/

Of course, here you come....mobs and pitch forks, blood for the blood god , skulls for the skull throne. Rend and tear his soul, snap and crack his bones, garland his body with his entrails....because ... revenge.

This turdbucket planned the attack way ahead of time. It is clearly first degree murder and he should be swiftly tried and swiftly executed. They are saving a bunk for him in Hell next to Ted Bundy and Jeff Dahmer.

if this guy was black ..with the same mental talk going on, he would have no help from these same people crying now so i think they should give this super genius his guns back and allow him to go see the expendables movie.

This remark does not make any sense! It does not matter if saw 20 Doctors, this was a evil thing that he did!
09:39 PM on 08/22/2012
Evil is the inability of a human being to find empathy for his fellow man. I believe we as a society must view mental illness as an illness. we can no longer kick it to the curb and hope that it will stay there. We can and must do better. People with mental illnesses need to be treated with medication and if need be institutionalized to protect others as well as themselves. So now( after seeing numerous doctors for help) twelve people are dead and one life hangs in the balance. You all may think I'm nuts but I have empathy for that one life. And , I will pray for it as much as I do for the others. May God bless us all. We can do better.

The only way this tragedy could have been prevented is by Holmes not having the firearms & ammo. Since this seems to be everyone's constitutional right, the point is moot. No brilliant, competent psychologist or anyone else can predict what, when, where, & how someone will vent his maniacal rage. In retrospect, everyone's an expert. Unfortunately, this kind of rampage will happen again & again. Sadly, it's a part of our imperfect world.

I'll agree with you-if you agree we need to outlaw private automobiles. However, you're too stupid to realize that 100 people per day die in car wrecks. This far excees any amount of gun violence.

You compare guns to automobiles? Oh my! Our society is indeed doomed! Or maybe just those who compare guns to automobiles are just, well..never mind. I don't know of many people that buy automobiles for "protection" or "hunting" or because they have a right to "own one". But you go ahead. Compare the two. How about cigarettes? they kill more people! let's compare guns to cigarettes! And outlaw them both! Naw! Can't do that! Too much BIG money at stake!

So your saying he couldn't have set off a couple gallons of gas in that theater? He could have killed people in any manner of ways. He could have drove his car into the crowd as they left. If you are evil enough you will find a way.

Very few people get off on insanity.

And if you do that means being kept in mental facilities indefinitely, certainly longer than you would have been in ordinary prison.

There is a gag order in place. The judge needs to come down on these leakers hard and fast, including the irresponsible TV station. The leaks need to stop before this becomes a circus like trials in CA and FL.
