"NEW RULES" In order to satisfy the insecure lazy people claiming this advantage or that by handicapped Olympians, the Paralympic committee must deny blind athletes from running with any guide. In the meanwhile full body runners must continue wearing the latest Nike running shoes for that extra needed advantage.

Isn't it something how much hate a man with no lower legs is getting? I guess they think they are smarter than the IOC. Pistorius got to wear he is through hard work. All sprinters do. He has to deal with a lot more issues than an athlete with two legs. A lot of people won't even get off the couch to take a walk down the street but they think they have a right to judge this man. SMH.

They watch too many superhero movies, they think Oscar just put on those prosthesis and started running like Jake Sully in Avatar lol, sad.

It's ridiculous that he got a record against people with similar disabilities and prosthetic limbs?

I think it's all good as long as the next Pistorius gets the same consideration if he/she meets the criteria to be in both the regular....for lack of a better word..or para-olympics whether that person has prosthetic legs or arms........I applaude him for his accomplishments, but maybe I am a dieing breed, but I also believe in fairness.

2 'real' legs and slow. :) The grass 'tickles' . . . doesn't it? :(
01:31 PM on 09/02/2012
Are all those haters who assert than a double amputee has an advantage over runners with natural legs because of his prosthesis going to make the same argument that blind runners have an advantage over full sight runners because "they have a running guide". ? What a cruel world we live in.

It's interesting that Oscar Pistorius receives attention in the USA when the paralympics generally are roundly and disgracefully ignored.  I can only assume that it's because he is considered aesthetically "acceptable" in some way.  After all the media in the USA finds it difficult enough to portray less than perfectly idealised able bodied people.

its not him, its the add-on legs.

kudos to him for being such an amazing person, but you cannot take the numbers seriously...
01:38 PM on 09/02/2012
really i was in the physical therapy department for years thus learning a lot about muscle use, artifical limbs, how the body functions etc. it was his upper thigh muscles that initiated his artifical limbs, that enabled his performance. it took him years, i imagine, as i don't know him or his stamina however he obviously did not give up. he accomplished something few others have.
02:00 PM on 09/02/2012
Yeah, b/c clearly everyone who has "add-on legs" (also known as prosthetics) is fast enough to compete against "able-bodied" athletes. Oh, wait, Pistorius is the only man w/ artificial legs in the history of the world to be fast enough to compete against "able-bodied" athletes. Hmm...something doesn't add up here...

I am not much of an adulator, but this amazing man makes me ashamed of my insignificant complaints. What an amazing person. He is one of my heroes. Kudos to him and his ability to be phenomenal!

‘A Perfect Oscar’

Agile,
controlled,
silver.

Perfect.

Their rhythm hypnotic
as they hit the ground.
Again and again.

Aching legs,
heavy,
yet somehow gliding smoothly.
As if controlled
by someone else’s remote.

Spinning the Earth,
faster,
with each endorphin filled metre
left behind.

The exquisite pain,
a natural high.

Glistening diamonds
of salted spray,
steady thumping sounds.
Summer smells permeate memories.
Heavy chlorine.

Yet, not created
from crashing waves on a beach,
nor the city pool.

Born on the asphalt of the track.
Merely side effects
of a body
pushed beyond its limits.

A little bit further,
just a bit more.
A tiny bit quicker.
Huge accomplishments.

Breathe,
breathe.

The daily journey ends
the same way it began.

In the agile,
controlled,
silver prosthetics.

Perfect.

Looking through those photos, there's no way you can't admire these people. To be dealt those kind of hands and still have the courage to live a full life. Awesome
