I once worked for a non-profit where the exec director wanted to fire an employee on leave recovering from cancer. Luckily the rest of us in management talked her out of it. I stopped shopping at Home Depot for five years because of shoddy customer service when I was spending thousands a month at their stores. I'm sorry now I ended my boycott. I will not frequent their stores again.

You guys are "done with Home Depot"?

All the sleezy large employers -- well, most of them -- do the same stuff. Not just Depot. And where does it not happen? Where employees are unionized. Like to have no benefits, no sick leave, no vacation time, or just a little, tiny taste of those benefits? Abolish the unions and you will end up with nothing. Just watch.

Hey, the only reason Starbuck employees in Seattle get sick leave is because it is a city ordinance.

The buck's in the suburban cities do not give their employees any sick leave, just management. Yet managers just to go work sick because they can't take off work without chaos to pay.

The CEO of Home Depot has given millions of dollars to the Romney campaign. 100k is a drip drop in the bucket to him. Glad she won. Hope she is in remission.

Hate unions huh? Together we stand apart we beg!! Companies could care less about an employee!! Rommney say he love to FIRE!!! Thank goodness I retired with full pension and full medical, all because our company was unionized. Never had no problems with management!! We know Wal-mart track record, a slave company!! Home depot!! only hire illegals!!

If you go out on social security disability, you have to wait 2 years after you get your first check before you can get medicare-not medicaid. Unless you are rich, try to find a health policy you can afford when the insurance company finds out you are on disability for health reasons. I worked for a company where there was supposed to be a manager and at least one, if not two assistant managers and and 4-6 counter people ( we had 4 ). No manager, no assistant manager, one went out on medical and another stopped coming to work. That left 2 of us ( open 24 hours a day-7 days a week ) to cover the shifts, 8, 12, 16 on, same off. This lasted for over 3 months, just couldn't seem to find anybody that wanted a job. They did pay us but never got a thanks for helping them out. It was expected that we would just do it. I'm not sure that is why I got sick ( and then they laid me off. that was actually one of the best things they ever did for me. ) . I didn't get a $ 100,000 but I also don't have to deal with them anymore and things haven't changed for them. Oh yes, they offered me my job back with a raise, but I had disability by then and declined. I really don't think I could have done it though, too physical.

Except what year did this person get offered the $100,000 and who is president?

This is an outrage! In Mitt Romney's America, poor, helpless, vulnerable Home Depot would be protected from these pesky and unreliable biological units.

This is the type of thing that made labor unions strong in the past. Want them back?

Labor unions have been declining for the past 50 years. They are dinosaurs. The UNcivil servants feed at the taxpayer trough without wanting to give anything back. The country will be better off when all unions are abolished. They only protect the lazy and the incompetent.

I feel for her, I really do. But she had FOUR years of leave during her 13 years at the company, that seems more than reasonable to me.. am I wrong here?
09:54 PM on 09/07/2012
I do not think a limit on sick leave. She should have signed ip for disability, considering so much welfare is used by the employeed who work the so called jobs.

Home Depot hires huge numbers of part time people and provides no benefits. If you have ever shopped at a Home Depot you will know they don't spend much time on training either.

Replacing anyone for anytime is not that big a problem under HD's business model.
