Mrs. Romney claims, "Our life has always been devoted to those that are struggling more than we are."

We have heard that you gave your Mormon Church tithes regularly.    But the Mormons don't offer much besides preaching,  prosthelytizing in any place l have lived.    Mitt's time working for the US Olympic committee is not charitable service,  as the Olympics  Read More...

Sure. I think that Mitt believes Angles came to Joseph Smith to give him golden tablets to translate into the Book or Mormon, right here in America and that we all go to a special planet in space to live with God...

There are two types of Mormons - the ones who believe this, go to church every week, work menial jobs for minimal pay, which they then give 10% of to the church. And the one's who don't, that get a higher education, make more money and hold positions in the church which collects that 10% from the others.

Which do you think the Romneys are?

No doubt that is part of the LDS family plan if you research the relatives.
01:01 PM on 09/11/2012
You think that wealthy Mormons who hold positions in the church don't pay 10% of their income? You are mistaken. Even Romney's tax returns show he pays his 10%. Romney also attends church.....he wouldn't have been a Bishop and Stake President if he hadn't.

It's still a Pyramid Scheme, those at the Top get all the dough! Those at the top, say what to Invest in. Would love to look in their private portfolios, I'm sure it mirrors the investments of the Church.
04:44 PM on 09/11/2012
Paying 10% back into his own pocket doesn't constitute a charitable donation... He's a Bishop and Stake President, he controls where and how that 10% is spent/invested. The account numbers of the money may change, but the person controlling it stays the same.

Does anybody else get the unsettling feeling that she actually rules the roost here? It's good of him to hold his wife in high esteem but it seems that everytime something like this is brought up it's her that's making the decision. She's the one seeming to always push, "you must do this".

Actually I get quite the opposite feeling. That she, like traditional Mormon teachings, is quite subservient to her husband. A couple of very disturbing indications of this is her contention that in their long marriage, they have never argued about anything and her story about the miscarriage where she woke up at 3 am, but didn't want to disturb Mitt and waited for him to wake up three hours later before going to the hospital.

Ask a real Mormon woman if she is subservient to her husband or is required to be subservient to her husband, and she will laugh at you. The Obama campaign wants women's votes, so why not have the media portray Romney as belonging to a religion where women are subservient. Anyone who believes this nonsense has never asked a Mormon about it, that's for sure.

It's true, simply look at the background of their founding father Joseph Smith. He was a treasure hunter turned prophet who combined business and religion to the detriment of his own church. Mormons pretend they were persecuted for no reason, but they were RUN OUT of the places they settled for doing things like creating a bank and printing money with no value. Now their organization is one of the wealthiest businesses in Utah that gives less to charity than other similar organizations by a factor of 30.

He was no treasure hunter, they may bend the law but 98% are trustworthy. Joe Smith was a con man who broke the law. He had a glib tongue and quick mind, how else when caught shtupping another women could he convince his wife that what she saw was a holy act ordained by God to be? Then incorporate this extramarital affair into a tenet his new faith. Thus was born polygamy in the Mormon faith. No treasure hunter but a grifter of the first water.

That's great. Belittle a man who believes in family values then discard all of his because he was successful in business. There are no records of his having done anything illegal in business or his taxes or in any of his money dealings are there? I love how so many of you talk about what you would be if you had his money or imply that because he has money he's automatically nothing less than demonic. I'd bet the farm that he gives a much larger percentage of his paycheck in the form of a tithe to his church or otherwise than any of you hypocrites do. And if you want to show us all how to be rich the correct way then run off and achieve wealth then I'll give your opinion some validity. Until then, talk is cheap and in the case of commenters here, hypocritical

I don't know much about Mormons but I do want to say this. I went to a small high school of less than 900 people and of those people probably 15% of them were Mormons represented by several different families. In my years with them I found these things to be absolutely true:

1. They were incredibly nice people who weren't prone to the gossip or ridicule of others
2. They all without exception abstained from drinking or drugs without judgement
3. They were all very family oriented people who were not ashamed of their faith and would answer any questions without hesitation but also never once did I see any of them trying to convert anyone (Christian school for the most part)
4. They were extremely giving people and excellent neighbors to have
5. Raised the most well mannered children I've ever seen
6. Some 30 years later the ones I'm still in contact with remain as they were
7. All the girls were well above average in looks but never allowed anything other than a kiss
8. Overall the kindest, most compassionate and non judgemental group of people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing

I just thought I'd mention that for whatever it's worth.

Butt I didn't know Mitt growing up and his kids didn't go to my school. Otherwise according to the opinions on this board my observations would have included a smaller percentage amount than the one I mentioned. So my intention wasn't to say he was perfect. He may run over small children with his riding mower in his spare time for all I know but he didn't do it in my neighborhood

All religions have moral values. They do not constitute good requirements for any political (or no political) position. But, one’s religion can be (when considered), a good indication of one’s common sense.

Here we have a candidate for the presidency of a great nation. Imagine you are the CEO of the USA and you are looking to HIRE the most competent, experienced and sensible person to RUN the USA as if it were a mega corporation, mega bank, or whatever you want it to be.
Now make a simple list of the prerequisites, knowledge, common sense, etc. that you would like this person to have on his resume’.
A good candidate finally comes along with most, if not all, of what you want on his resume’. You interview him and soon learn that he believes the following, according to his religion;

• Native Americans are relics of the seven lost tribes of Israel, though they speak no language even remotely related to Hebrew.
• These Natives crossed the Atlantic as early as 400 BC, in both directions, from the Holy Land to the New England coast.
• They built walled cities, used bronze, iron and wheels, coins, wheat in North America.
• They used reformed Egyptian as a written language.
• They were visited by Jesus after his resurrection.
• His religion has "a mission for the US", etc. (Book of Mormon)

Would you then still think him a good candidate?
Yes, you guessed it, its Mitt Romney.

What do Native Americans have to do with Mitt Romney....?
11:55 PM on 09/10/2012
Mormon values led him to politics? That's very interesting, because Jesus led people to God's kingdom or heavenly government, and none of man's governments, as the ONLY hope for mankind. That kingdom is a major theme of the Bible and is the only source of true peace and security. Mitt should refer to the Bible's prophecy at Daniel 2:44 concerning these last days.

So Romney left Bain Capital to run the Olympics and then Governor, like it was some huge sacrifice. That sacrifice is always easier when you have lots of healthy bank accounts. And is there some reason his wife is always with him in interviews? Every time I hear Ann Romney speak about the poor, she sounds like she is talking to the hired help.

"The sense of -- obligation to one's fellow man. An absolute conviction that we are all sons and daughters of the same God and therefore in a human family -- is one of the reasons I am doing what I'm doing," Romney said and having said that he can not share the specifics of the plan he and the person down ticket him have for America (you see that broad brush covers his penchant for half truths and cloaked verbiage. That sense must have eclipsed him when he was governor, venture capitalist, "savior of the games" and running for office....

I have to say that the first paragraph turned me off reading the rest. To say that America finally having our first black President paved the way for him? Wow. There have been numerous religious people that have been President.
01:17 PM on 09/11/2012
I think most Presidents have been religious. Some religions have been persecuted more than others, similarly to the black race being persecuted. I believe that is what he was referring to, the fact that his religion, like the black race, has been persecuted in some way.
