What a horrific thing to have happen to all concerned. A horrible death of a mother, an autistic child left motherless and a farmer trying to provide for his family having such a gruesome thing happen to him. The people affected by this murder is huge. I hope they get the right person who did this and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

How very sad for this woman and her autistic son to have to endure such a horrific loss. Once again this poor woman's awful fate serves as a clarion call to all of you ladies out there to choose your company as wisely and carefully as you possibly can. Please do not allow affairs of the heart to triumph over extreme caution and common sense. The price of a lack of due dilligence can be deadly as we have just witnessed here. May she rest in peace.

This is a very sad story indeed. I am sure she worried who would take care of her autistic son if something ever happened to her because I have a special needs daughter and worry about the same thing. No one can ever take the place of his mommy, but I hope he finds security and love in a warm and welcoming home. My condolences to the family.

Thank you so much Lechiffre, I really appreciate that.  Sometimes I cringe when I see I have a response about having a special needs child because I once had a reply saying that they had no sympathy for me and thought my precious daughter should be put down like a rabid dog basically.  I cried for hours after.  Thanks again and have a sun-shiny day.  -ksh

So horrible and sad. I'm sure it's going to emotionally be hard on the farmer too. Even if he has slaughtered animals before its not the same.

This happen to a local woman in our small town last year, but she was alive when it happened. It was the woman's fault but the farmer still has nightmares about it. Hope justice is swift.

She wasn't 'found wedged in a combine' , she was left dead in the field and her body was picked up by the machine. The proper statement would be 'her dead body was discovered in a corn field after becoming caught in a combine'. The way it was written makes it sound like someone wedged her into the combine to hide the body. I know it's sad either way, but these reporting errors just get frustrating after reading a couple thousand.

We may have grown used to not expecting perfection from these so called reporters and copy writers. But some measure of RESPECT from Huff Po for their READERS would certainly be nice every once in a while.

You're right! Because that's the first thing I thought....That someone had wedged her into the combine to hide the body.

They say we die the way we lived.
09:57 AM on 09/14/2012
They also say you shouldn't speak before you think.

How dare you assume she somehow was due this horrible death. No one deserves to be put down like this. Unless you know her personally, there's nothing in the article that would suggest she was a bad person or envolved in anything crazy. She obviously didn't chose a winner of a boyfriend, but most don't - and we live to learn. Unfortunately the one she was with may have ended her life. But she didn't deserve to die like that and thrown into a field - and her son surely doesn't deserve to go on without his mother.

The article says she died before she was in the corn picker. In order to know that, you would have to read the entire article. She was dead way before that. Why is it you do not know that?

According to the Journal Star, an ex-boyfriend of McDowell's, 25-year-old Stephen Turner, is considered a person of interest.

Unfortunately, this is the case too often. When I hear things like this, it sometimes makes me happy to be single.
