Walmart is owned by christians and this is how they treat thier employees. I also fear that if the republicans like Romney have their way, these kinds of work place conditions will become very common, because he want to take away unions and federal restrictions so, he says, companies can make more money and hire more people.

Hiring more people automatically means they won't make as much money. Even Mitt cold understand this IF he was honest, which no wealthy person is.

These marching workers are some of the s/heros in America today. They are the givers, not the takers/moochers that Romney labels them. Romney and his funders, benefit much more from our government's largesse and tax breaks than these folks, who rarely get a break. Thank you for marching for economic justice; it is on behalf of all who get or have ever gotten a paycheck.

If you want to understand why Americans are loosing so much of their wealth, look around your town. Take a drive and note how many franchises you see. Wal Mart, Target, Exxon, Starbucks, Mc Donald's, Applebee's, 7-11, you get the idea. Now, think, what if those were locally owned businesses? The profits would stay in your community not be shipped offshore to the bank accounts of wealthy stockholders and corporate executives. All those millions of dollars every day leaving your community that otherwise would be spent by the local business owners in your business.

convivio. While many businesses are franchised Walmart, Target, Exxon, Starbucks are not among them. These are company owned stores. They once were locally owned stores but city governments sold out the independants to the big chains. They give free space, tax breaks and other sweetners. Think of this as welfare for Romneys 53%. The six Walton family members have more wealth then all 2.1 million Walmart workers combined plus another 80 million US citizens for good measure
01:16 AM on 09/19/2012
I read where the 6 Walton family members have as much wealth as the bottom 30% of the country combined. Not sure if that's valid, but it wouldn't be surprising if it is true.

Yeah: Walmart enslaves their workers, destroys Main Streets across America; has addicted Americans to only purchase lots of poorly made goods for very low prices and probably doesn't pay much in taxes. The American Dream for the 1%--Walmart!

i avoid Walmart for these reasons, I might pay a little more, but is is worth it. Walmart also has a lot of part time workers making minimum wage.

Oh yes, I love that (overused line); "If you don't like your low-wage, non-benefitted job--go get a different low-wage, non-benefitted job". You have a 'choice'! Sadly, it's not a real one, but members of the clueless class who usually can't stand unions for a better America make these sorts of inane comments. Empty!

And all the other 'jobs' in that area are pretty much the same. That whole 'inland empire' is a distribution/warehousing hub sadly with similar conditions....(if it was unionized you know they'd be a much bigger middle class there and it'd be more prosperous.)......probably one reason why so many homes are underwater/foreclosed and San Bernardino is in bankruptcy.

Just a ripple on walmarts pound, Their job's are gone and in a few week's the public will have forgotten, This company is behind our Govt. the largest employer in the united states and doesn't give a damn about anything but profits. Their workers must rely on foodstamps and other relief to just exist, While the owners live in unbelieveable luxurey and send money to their old friend Mitt, With unlimited moneythey have spent millions lobbying to weaken the bribery laws so they again have an advantage that other retailers don't. No American should buy from them as it is very much aginst your best interests.
08:39 PM on 09/18/2012
I will NOT EVER walk into or support a Walmart because of their abhorrent and disgusting treatment of their employees that is UNACCEPTABLE in the US. It's absolutely disgusting that one of the richest families in the world, the Waltons, who started Walmart have such disdain for their employees and treat them horribly. Their pay is NOT a living wage, they don't pay most of their employees health insurance, fire them if they try to organize with a union to get better benefits. You couldn't pay me to walk into a Walmart as a customer until their employees conditions improve drastically. I fully support TARGET because they believe in supporting and treating their employees fairly and their prices are just as low!

It is precisely the behemoth that Wal Mart has become that could work in the worker's favor, IF THEY CAN COOPERATE. Store to store, state to state. Unfortunately, I am not sure this could ever happen. It's a huge task. But, if it were corporation-wide, plain and simple there would be too many positions to fill. One store? Not so much. Would I pay more for a unionized Wal-Mart? Of course I would. Because I already pay for the public services that Wal-Mart employees use (i.e. food stamps, etc.), and are encouraged to apply for by Wal-Mart hiring staff. So what difference does it make? At least with the former, the workers have some say and dignity.

I guess Wal-Mart wants to treat their American workers the same as their Chinese help! One of the richest retailers in the world can't afford to furnish their employees with decent working conditions???? Four of the Wal-Mart heirs are among the ten richest individuals in our country!!! There is something very wrong here!!!!!

Yeah. Kinda like the same union stunts that got us a 40-hour work week, a Federal minimum wage, and laws that protect workers to make sure their working conditions are safe. Damn those unions for trying to protect human beings against corporations that only care about their bottom lines.

Mitt Romney and his billionaire pals, think just like you, bobravv. They forgot or , in most of their cases, never experienced bad working conditions. They got their money by silver-spoons. Never had to really work for it.

06:29 PM on 09/18/2012
It's not that easy. Especially if you have a family. And we all know how scarce jobs are. Sounds like a government plot to me. Reduce the amount of jobs and people will be jumping to get a minimum wage job, just like in China.
