Bejaybus, that Steele is a sharp knife. To think that a politician could make a political move in a political context and still, STILL, in spite of the subtlety and caginess of the move, Michael Steele would see right through it -- point out with laser-point accuracy that the politician is doing things to further his own political interests?! I tell you, the Steeleman leaves me breathless! Unbelievable.

Yeah, probably for the same reason Specter flopped, they were facing political oblivion.

As soon as pro choice moderate GOP Pat Toomey announced his intentions to run against spector as a GOP in 2010 that is WHEN he defected. Wonder why you wont see any dem run against him in 2012 - part of the switcheroo plan

Hey Steele, maybe you didn't notice how the last 2 major elections worked out for your party, so allow me to break the bad news to you:

Specter did the exact same thing that millions of other american voters did in the last couple years: they woke up and realized the GOP is too right-wing and there's no room for their centrist positions. Stop crying and start trying to build a bigger tent for your party.

Specter isn't that introspective, it's all about getting elected for him.

UPDATE UPDATE

On our local Delaware Valley news, it seems that Spector was trying to position himself to be in that seat forever; he has been at odds with the party because they would not guarantee him what he wanted. Lehigh Valley, PA is a melting pot of voters even though PA is a Blue state. Spectors demands were getting out of control until he broke and voted with obama on the stimulus package. That was in March, so yes, behind the scenes he was giving the GOP one last chance to do his way or he walks. On April 15th, 2009 enter Pat Toomey who had run against him in 2004 and lost. He became an elected Rep in the area and became respected. On that date, he officially announced he would run for the GOP nom for Senate - and Spector obvioulsy was not happy that the GOP was going to "allow" a primary. Hence here we are today.

Pat Toomey is a moderate pro choice GOP who has been able to get the support of soft dems and indies alike - like Spector.

It is sad that Spector is so desperate to keep his seat he would sell himself and the country out.

Oh well, no loss for the GOP!

$10 says Steele will be gone by 2010 elections. Or at least a month later.

Every time Steele opens HIS mouth, I find myself actually OPENMOUTHED with surprise and embarrassment at the man the GOP has chosen as head of their party. His 'street language,' faux or not, marks him as not ready for prime time, for any time...

This is what Republicans call "leadership."

Excuse me... the Republican Party is going to do what? They are lame, ineffective and now that Steele is speaking for them, not only irrelevant, but wayyy out in the cold. Steele, you know since you have taken your position the only things I ever read about you are how you are reacting to something. I have yet to read about what you doing, or what you have done. Are you as pathetic as it seems? Steele, you best look for another position. You can't carry water for the Right wing media twirps, you won't get any one elected. You are just another blathering joke.

What this shows is the ABSOLUTE FAILURE of Steele as Party Chairman.

He tries to talk his way out of it stating, National does not try to influence Local while he is in Texas to improve communications between national and local.

Steele was caught flat-footed and committed a mortal sin as Chairman: Allowing a Defection on his watch.

He will be gone in 30 days.
