Great! But who replaced her?!?
09:51 AM on 11/07/2012
It almost doesn't even matter. She was just a hateful and destructive person that *anyone* else would be an improvement.

Sill, it's a good question.

As soon as the results are certified, Maureen McGinnis (the mayor pro tem and a member of the city counsel) will become acting mayor and an election will be called to select a new mayor, which will happen on or before December 11, 2012.

Correction for the umpteenth time - most of these bigots are not homophobic (they do not fear the homosexuals). They are gay haters, plain and simple. Some gay haters are homophobic, but many are not.
10:03 AM on 11/07/2012
I understand your point, but I think you're trying to split hairs needlessly. Homophobia is ONLY "fear" of gay people. Here are some definitions:

Merriam-Webster: ": irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals"

[Note the "aversion to" and "discrimination against" parts.]
Oxford Dictioary: "an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people."

[Note the use of the word "aversion", not "fear"]

Cambridge Dictionary: "a fear or dislike of homosexuals"

[Note the use of the word "dislike"]

Dictionary.com: "unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality."
[Note the use of the words "or antipathy toward"]

I actually could not find a dictionary that defines homophobia as narrowly as you are attempting to. It isn't just "fear". Gay haters -- all of them -- can properly be deemed homophobic by virtue of every major dictionary available.

Ack! That second sentence is supposed to read: "Homophobia is NOT ONLY "fear" of gay people."

God, I wish HuffPo had an edit button. I also wish my proofreading skills were better, lol!

Thank you to the citizens who worked hard to recall her. Thank you voters. Thank you for showing that Troy does not want this person representing our city. Time to get back to city business that benefits our community.

Thank you Troy! You are a nice city and deserve so much better; congratulations on rejecting discrimination, bigotry, and small-minded thinking. Our country is evolving and moving forward, elected folks like Daniels are hopefully becoming obsolete.

Great, now that unacceptable person will be gone, I'll consider shopping and eating in Troy again. I avoided the place like the plague as long as that awful woman was in charge.

Thankful that the residents of Troy fought discrimination and bigotry, and hopefully this sends a good message out that intolerance will not be tolerated. Especially by our elected officials and leaders of our communities. Bye Bye Ms. Mayor...and I hope this follows you forever! I am sure your family and friends are proud.
