The Road Less Taken

I am so glad this disaster was averted. That mom is one awesome woman. I just hope that the media doesn't "reward" her by hounding her at this difficult time.

They already are.

What I feel is anger. Anger that someone would sit at home and plan something like this. That he would be so carefree about killing. That he would be willing to kill women and children who are shopping for the holidays or going to the movies. It just makes me mad. Now going to the movies or Walmart has become a dangerous thing to do.

I'm so grateful for the mother who had the courage to do what was right. She not only saved her son, but all those people and their families.

Women and children? You wouldn't be angry if he killed men?
06:54 PM on 11/17/2012
Fair point Dave....although most dudes are pretty cruddy to have around ;)

I would be angry if they killed men also, but I think of a lot of Mom's with their kids when I think of the mall.

I understand your anger and why you are upset; but this does not mean that "going to the movies or Walmart has become a dangerous thing to do". It's no more dangerous to go out today, than it was yesterday. Please don't terrorize yourself and others, no good will come from catastrophising.

I'll try, but it's still scary.

Crazy how this is more and more becoming a common event. Read between the lines, we are on the verge of a massive mental and emotional breakdown.

This made me laugh out loud. :)

Randomly.

I don't really think that we are on the verge of a massive mental and emotional breakdown, I just think that we do no justice when we think of these people as mentally disturbed. When we decided to take the life of people who takes lives then and only then will people think twice about doing things like this. Do not write telling me I would not say this if this was one of my family members because one of my family member should get the same. People hearts are forever broken when a family member's life is taken away by these crimes.

In this case, you might have a point. Lammers was going to turn himself in so he could be taken alive, he wasn't planning on turning the gun on himself or committing suicide by cop. The kid wasn't suicidal, he just wanted to kill.

It would be interesting to know what is in this guy's past that his mother felt she needed to turn him in.

Guns and ammo are not cheap. Did he have a job? If not where did the money come from for him to purchase the gun last week and the ammo to test shoot?

its commendable this imbecile's mother had the character to report him and god in his amazing grace will bless her for her action. but i would like to say to any loose screw still out there with guns and a desire to kill random people, some people who need killing for no other reason than they are wasting good air the rest of us could be enjoying, and reportedly there are about 81,000 of them in texas, georgia has some and apparently several other states have some, and if ever some people needed killing for no other reason than they are here, its the secessionst, anarchist, tyrants in those states whining about president obama, the piece of human vermin/garbage named jefferson davis lived unpunished to brag about how he violently tried to overthrow the lawful, elected government of the united states, because the government would not let him live his miserable life thinking and acting he was better than others cause his skin was white.

Special 100% authentic Thanks to his mother. Someone cried for help and someone paid attention. It shows you that it's never too late. I hope all the people that were there are going to be psychologically okay that had to be traumatic. Sending Positive Thoughts to all of them and i hope his mother is at peace knowing she did the right thing Sincerely!

Kudos to the mother!!! I am hoping that more people will take heed, and turn people in whether they are family not. I noticed that if he was able to carry this out, he planned on turning himself in when the police arrived. REALLY? Why plan a massacre? Just turn the gun on yourself and spare the lives of innocent people. I guess there are no headline grabbing, ongoing attention if a person just take their own lives in the privacy of their own homes.

Holy cow. This is scary. His mom deserves high praise. I can't imagine what she's feeling at this point. Thank god this was averted.

This is exactly why the sanitariums/insane asylums should be reopened! Too many people have severe mental illness and are a danger to society. Not sure why they were closed in the first place. This would create jobs and keep the public safer.
07:39 PM on 11/17/2012
A while ago, the general opinion seemed to be that the U.S. was needlessly imprisoning the mentally ill, since the country now had new medications thought to treat many emotional or mental problems . Apparently it was considered to be more cost effective to medicate the mentally ill and close down the large institutions. Therefore many very ill people were left unsupervised, so it was unknown if the medications would be taken, or if they were of doing the job. Also unknown was if the patient might still be dangerous - medicated or not.

To sum up, commonsense lost and many hospitals for the mentally ill were closed down.

However, I'm assuming there are still a few left, but not enough.

Wow. My heart goes out to his Mother. She did the right thing. We can only imagine (thankfully) how many lives she saved by the strength it took of her to report her own son. We give birth to our beautiful babies, we care for them, we love them. I cannot imagine the pain she must feel.

That mothers deserves praise and recognition for the courage she showed turning her son in. Must have been an impossible decision to make.
