True. Detroit has misspent and otherwise squandered money, mostly through the illegal antics of Kwame Kilpatrick. But let's not look in the other direction when our power hungry republican governor cuts funding throughout the state to police, fire, and ems, and raids the school aid fund to finance his tax breaks to the super wealthy. The math is not hard. When education is cut and public safety is diminished, crime escalates and things fall apart. You can hardly blame Obama for that.

Detroit has no tax base. If he is cutting costs for the suburbs so they don't have to cover the cost of Detroits corruption anymore... here, let me get you some fresh scissors.

Actually Detroit is a perfect example of GOP policies preventing the feds from doing infrastructure improvement, neighborhood upgrades, etc. as happened in the 3 river area of Pittsburgh or in Manhattan 20 years ago, or in other cities that are on their way back. I recently watched 3 hours of a show about the American Dust Bowl.. I was amazed at the attitude of the Republicans when it came to fixing a huge man-made environmental problem. They dragged their feet or shall I say they dragged their knuckles in all efforts to stop FDR from fixing this problem which was compounded with the Great Depression. Fortunately FDR was right, had a bit more influence and defeated the do nothing GOP of that era.. It is frightning to see how do-nothing and obstructionists like the GOP have not changed in almost 100 years. Right wing politics are not good for America. If you disagree I suggest you go study and read history, because you are wrong.

Business owners like me have moved into a survival mode and we are going to sit on the sidelines untill it is over. Good luck to you 47%'rs that now need a job. We don't have one for you. It's too bad that a lot of people are going to have to suffer bucause of the Liberal Democratic voters stupidity.
09:18 PM on 11/21/2012
agreed. Hope moving forward they now understand means getting 2 jobs instead of one

07:40 PM on 11/21/2012
But will you admit voting for Bush?
08:11 PM on 11/21/2012
I did vote for Bush both times but, I am disappointed how he let the democrats ruin the economy in his last two years,
07:48 PM on 11/21/2012
So what you are saying is , if Romney was elected this wouldn't have happened ?

Whether you know it or not, a great deal of this problem falls on the shoulders of barry. He was the lawyer who sued the first bank over its lending practices and won. That is why fannie mae and freddie mac changed their practices and bought all the toxic loans that brought on the housing crisis that started this economic downward spiral. And he was the 3rd largest benefactor because he got money for each of those loans that fm and fm bought. Barney Frank made the most as chairman of the housing committee. Before the dems took both houses, the dow was at its highest ever. Bush went 17 times to congress to address the coming fall and was sent packing all 17 times. Who did you say was at fault?

You think Detroit went downhill in just the last 4 years.. Wow, are you uneducated.. This started long before Obama, in the 8 years of Bush perhaps. Try to get a grip with reality.
06:45 PM on 11/21/2012
Hey, didn't this city and state vote for the prez under the pretense that he was creating jobs for everyone? Way to go Detroit, you got what you ask for in this election. Next thing to do is vote for the mayor and governor you have now. They are surely taking care of you.

The Gov. is a Republican who is trying to clean up the mess left by 8 yrs. of Dem. Gov Jenny Granholm. And Mayor Bing is trying to fix the problems in Detroit but the City Council has fought him every step of the way. And as for voting for Obama two reasons UAW and Teamsters. My vote for Romney/Ryan was killed by $$ millions $$ of union dollars for Obama.

Obviously you haven't learned to be progressive. It is greedy to want to hold on to what you've earned but it is not greedy to want to take what someone else has earned. Got it?

Clueless. How about the millions owed the city by the state. Also, years of graft have gone unpunished, the money stolen gone. Add in shady contracts by the water, lighting dept. and waste management among others and there you have the mess. End the incinerator. Possibly tie services to the amount of residents, population up, city workers numbers up, down - down. Make major property owners stop being a drain on detroit finances too (Manny Maroun), and clean up or eminent domain the property and sell it as an asset for cash. Clean up the corruption in the DPD, and they won't have to pay out millions a year either.
05:45 PM on 11/21/2012
Hey clueless - the State doesn't owe the City squat. The City didn't live up to it's end of the agreement.

The only way for Detroit to learn anything - IF it ever does - is the HARD way. Stoopids can all move back down south now.

Corporations in America get 150 billion dollars in subsidies from the feds and the GOP will not allow those cuts. No other combined programs in America for welfare or help even comes close to what the oil companies, corporate farms, etc. get in federal welfare.. Try to learn something before you open your mouth.

He learned this from the federal government. They reduced the working hours in the Pontiac, Farmington Hills and Canton Social Security offices so that employees could get their work done. Only in government does it make sense to lay off people who are paid to provide service to constituents. Next, Chevy will announce that, in order to reduce costs, they are terminating their sales people.
03:56 PM on 11/21/2012
Chevy and the other auto companies already closed dealerships and sales people lost their jobs. People tend to forget what happened to save the auto industry.

Yeah, you're right.  I forgot that GM has gone from 47% market share to 17% in the past 40 years.  All those sales people are now working for Toyota and Honda.

07:10 PM on 11/21/2012
Since they already did the sales people in a while back along with dealerships, maybe the next step might be to announce plant closing and just become a foreign car company.
