Shop at Menards. They sell American Made products. My son has worked there for several months as a part-time employee., Because people are buying American Made Products again, he just made full time in the Electrical Department. (BTW, he just turned 20....he took the job even though it started out as part-time. He came in early, he volunteered to come in "on call" to substitute for a ill worker and he came in with a positive attitude. It makes a difference.) And although he was a part-timer, he still received a Christmas Bonus, as thanks for his dedication.

I guess some companies still support working to create a country that realizes that when Americans all work together we create a better country for all. Unlike companies like Apple that supports 700,000 workers in China and pays low wages to create high price products to sell to Americans to get rich.

companies do well when they live in reality and control costs - if the american government is going to attack their bottom line - then they will go elsewhere.

Don't go by the Macy's bags. Judging from the lack of shoppers , even with big discounts offered there this past week- while the mall was hopping, I'd say shoppers are suffering Trumpitis. That's the condition that happens to spenders when a store uses a grumpy, bigoted hate monger to sell their brand of Christmas cheer. After finding so few shoppers at Macy's , I went on the Macy's Facebook page and just about every comment was Dump Trump. Consumers say they are going to spend about 850.00 this holiday season, up 12% from last year. They just may be spreading the dollars around. Hopefully, some of those small and local businesses are getting a portion of those dollars. Sorry, Macy's- get rid of the Chinese made Trump junk and customers may again believe in The Miracle of 34th Street.

zanytothemax,

Letterman had a field day with all of the Trump products made in China and Indonesia and DT was so dumb- he couldn't even see the slams coming at him when they were thrown not even rolled at him.  DT started to lose the thread when he began fighting with Rosie . Since then,  he has stated everyone who says something about him that isn't positive is a "loser' a 'nobody' a  "has been " etc.  Perhaps, he is of the belief  that bad press is better than no press. One would think Trump would just want to make sure his name  and legacy is that of luxury -not narcissism. Smart ego maniacs know how to  manage their public persona so that they keep on making money. After all, there are legal secret political pacs.

kattsurfer99, I have bought beautiful earrings from a local jeweler for my daughter. No more expensive than the mall. I bought one of my sister's a hand embroidered chiffon blouse that she will love from a local store. Another daughter is going to get several hand crafted hair bands and barrettes from a local crafter selling at my daughter's school. I could go on and on. My mom is getting gift certificates from her favorite facialist ( local) and her fave place to have her manicures and pedicues. I bought one of my son's head phones from the local Guitar store. I cpould go on and on.

kattsurfer99, So the snowboard and tennis racket I bought at a local sporting goods store are inferior? The gourmet hand crafted cheeses I sent a friend  from a farm are inferior? The holiday plants  I sent friends from local florists in their areas are inferior? The hand made soaps, bubble bath and skin products made by an artisan sent to another friend are inferior, the candles too? How about the hand knitted Christmas stockings I bought on Ebay from the woman who knits them? The rose pillow specially made for my daughter, with her name embroidered on it? Inferior?   I guess Christmas to you is about plasma t.v's and electronics. By the way, they are all made in China and Indonesia and made to destruct in about 3 years, if that long. The  cheap imported clothing doesn't last more than 8 or 9 washes. One can't escape imported junk all the time. Try finding kids clothing made here but we can frequent small stores and keep our spending directly  our  neighbors. lest the entire USA be turned into one    giant Walmart.

Many consumers have been or are being foreclosed on. This is why the economy is still bad. The Banksters control the country and the government be it Republican or Democrat. The politicians, attorney generals and all the other flakes in the government agencies have sold us out.

If you make your house payments they don't foreclose. If you lost your job and lose your house, sorry. Neither here nor there the property is owned by the bank or institution that loaned you the money they need to secure the asset as its their depositors money.

They went thataway.....
05:28 PM on 12/07/2012
In 2013 we will see certainty replace uncertainty and a large spike in layoffs. Businesses are now sitting on whatever cash they have. With Obama, businesses who currently have some hope that the much-reported 'fiscal cliff' will be avoided, will know that there is no stopping the Keynesian, anti-capitalism philosophy that has dominated the White House since 2009. Once the fog of uncertainty is lifted and businesses clearly see that they cannot be saved by quantitative easing, cannot be saved by European debt management, cannot be saved by a slowing Chinese economy, cannot be saved by wind farms, electric cars, tax hikes on 1,200 rich families, 55% estate taxes, 30% Buffet Rule capital gains taxes, higher taxes on dividends, forced health care purchases and more.....they will then make rational choices about what to do next.

That choice will be to avoid as much risk as possible. That means not spending.
05:43 PM on 12/07/2012
The upper class was given a tax break so that they would invest in their companies and their businesses, and what did they do? Nothing. They "sat on" [your words] that money and did nothing with it except put it in their pockets. So, "sitting on their money" isn't new to them, they've been doing that for 4 freaking years. It's time now to let their "break" expire, just as it was always meant to expire. It was never meant to be a permanent GIFT to them. All they have done in the last 4 years is AVOID risk .. don't act like they're only doing that now.

You do understand the overall gist of the post, don't you? Taxing the "wealthy" will solve absolutely nothing. There are many more points than that, which you chose to ignore. Your post reads, at least to me, as if you live by Obama's talking points and not the cold, hard facts.

Businesses are sitting on whatever cash they have? Corporate profits are at record highs. The only reason they are not hiring in mass is that they have found they can do more with less employees. When consumer spending picks up they will have to hire and then workers will demand higher wages.....wages that have been stagnant for years as republican's trickle down theory has failed to trickle down

I actually feel less confident if we don't raise taxes on more than just the rich. We were promised a balance budget, and taxes on the rich won't be nearly enough revenue. The thought of a $20T debt in a couple years makes me lose sleep at night.
05:28 PM on 12/07/2012
Taxes on the rich covers 8 days. How do we get a balanced budget out of that. How about some spending cuts, starting with military

Property values in AZ are increasing. We were one of the hardest hit states. Not nearly as many homes sitting empty.

It could be the houses that were sitting empty, had their asking price lowered.
Which is why you're seeing less homes on the market, not because values are increasing.

Wake up and smell the coffee. These commie politicians are leading you sheep to the slaughterhouse.

In a Consumer-based Economy, THIS is about the only indicator that actually matters...

If Consumers (that would be us) spend, the economy grows...

If Consumers do not spend, the economy contracts.

The rest of the statistics, UE for example, are just indicators that determine the amount of spending that will or will not take place.
05:00 PM on 12/07/2012
I think that if you have money to spend you should spend it and enjoy your purchase. If you keep the money Obama and the Democrats will find a way to get their grubby paws on it. I made a bet with an old guy at the gym. I told him that the government would soon want to know how much money you have in your bank account so that they can calculate your new co pays for surgery etc. He insists that the government cannot do that. I think I'm going to win that bet.
