Critical traffic load? Did someone unplug the server? Did the Cambodian Children's Hacker Alliance or the Occupiers get lucky with some magic poison code? Zuckerberg playing god? The Government?

Free services have no service level agreement nor should you expect one. They could both be gone tomorrow and you would not have anything to cry about. Or, they could begin charging for them with little or no notice, such as just happened with the free version of Google Apps. Expect to get what you pay for, so expect nothing.

Facebook is not free. I went back on facebook for about 30 seconds, after a 3-1/2 month hiatus, because I'd just read an article about data-mining marketing profiling; went to the profiling company's site, made their profile about me more accurate, and got a little curious about my sidebar.

Nothing seems to have changed ... now to be FREE of FB for twice the time. I can do it ...

Dammit. I was otherwise occupied today and didn't get to notice the Gmail outage until a co-worker had a chuckle about getting an e-mail about gmail being down.

I'm sure that the people who decided replace a very successful in-house e-mail operation by out-sourcing to Gmail (for the bling, as it were, of additional features) were terribly concerned about reliability.

Sooo... That explains why the young ones were anxious, confused and, startlingly, engaged in conversation with nearby adults. I should have guessed something was wrong.

Why would facebook care about its customers? They only care about their product when other Silicon Valley Internet billionaire cartels complain about their service.
