Try the cheeseburger deluxe that comes with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and really good pickles and compare it to a McDonalds cheeseburger for the same price. Its a bigger better burger.

All fast food restaurants need to improve their menus by reducing the fat, salt and sugar in their products.

We have an obesity epidemic in this country and fast food is contributing to the problem.

Obesity increases you chance of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and strokes.

You will pay for bad eating habits as you age thru higher doctor bills and a shorter life span.

Call, tweet or email you favorite fast food customer service representative and let them know you want to see healthier items on the menu. This does not mean offering a salad or apples.
It means looking at all the products they sell and looking to see how they can reduce the fat, salt and sugar in them.

ok mama, thanks for telling us to eat right.

Fast food places make their decisions on what to serve on what sells. I suspect that healthier stuff ain't selling and if it ain't selling, it is hard to make a buck!

Nice. I love the fast food price competition.

Wendy's has the best fastfood salads. However, they'll never appear on the value menu. They've got the best "chicken" nuggets too by far.

I have a question. What constitutes a "fast-food salad"? How hard can it be for some people to prepare a salad "fast"? Why would a modern human go to fast-food joint to get a salad? A salad is mixed greens and chopped vegetables. Without being disgusting, does anyone else imagine how a "fast-food" place would prepare a alot of RAW aka UNCOOKED, veggies to be thrown on a pile of (gulp) washed lettuce?

If I'm busy and going to eat out anyway, a salad from a fastfood restaurant can be a better choice than other items on the menu.  Note- I said can be. I realize salads are not always any healthier but I've tried to educate myself about which ones are decent and Wendy's has some of the best choices.
I cook at home and I pack my lunches but sometimes a meal on the go is just unavoidable.
And I'm not really sure where you're going with your statement about washed lettuce.

It's the caramel frosty that kicks butt! Please put it on the value menu!

I love Wendy's chili, and chocolate Frostys. It's not that often that I buy a fast food burger; but for some reason everytime I buy a Wendy's burger it's cold after taking two bites. I don't buy Mickey D's burgers at all (doesn't taste like real beef). My favorite burger for fast food is from Burger King. Otherwise 5 Guys and a Burger is the place to go for an awesome burger

I used to love their chili until my buddy got a job there when he fell on hard times. The chili recipe is just how they deal with old cooked burgers that didn't get sold. They save them for a few days and make batches of chili from the chopped up remains of burgers that didn't sell.

I had a 'buddy' that worked there too...me. The chili is premade and frozen, and they don't put their old burgers in it. Congrats, you either just fell for a decades-old urban legend, or you're trying to spread it further.

There are a few items on Wendy's menu that are absolutely acceptable and maybe even considered healthful. It's hard to go wrong with their low-fat chili, baked potatoes, and salads. Much better quality food than McD's and most of the rest. Wish there was one in my town, but I often go to the nearest town for family-sized chili to go. It's one of the few "fast-foods" out there that helps, rather than hurts, my muscular dystrophy.

McDonald's tried classing up their joints, which resulted in higher cost to the customer, which resulted in the highest McDonald's stock drop ever. I'm glad to see Wendy's learn from McD's mistakes. If an eatery has a window on the side they pass food thru I'm not dropping more than 20 bucks there. Yesterday the wife and I went to Jake's Wayback Burgers (very much like five guys) and it cost us $13 for both of us to eat. At McDonald's 2 meals can cost upwards of 16 now. If I can get higher quality food cheaper than McD's than McD's is screwed because that's where I am going to go. Class rule, know your role. Fast Food is cheap food, stick to the formula.

There's no way in H that I'd pay $16 for food at Mickey D's. Every once in a while I go in there for fries....but that's it.

How did Wendy's learn? They brought in a 'value menu' in response to McD's bringing one in, then upped the price of all their burgers a dollar or two to compensate. Now they also have way bigger drinks that the average person wants, and charges close to $3 for a 'small' (bigger than McD's medium size). A Bacon Classic meal there now is close to $10, where a McD's Big Mac meal is still only about $7.

Where I live a big mac meal is 8. Add bacon to that and you have a comparable price to what wendy's is charging. Especially at a 2 dollar bacon charge form McD's. But, while McDonald's was limiting their dollar menu Wendy's was expanding theirs. That's how they learned. Raise prices across the board if you have to, which everyone has done, but don't remove things from your dollar menu. Don't get rid of the dollar menu all together, raise the prices on everything on the menu, and change the name to "value" menu. Really 1 piece of cheese on the double cheeseburger was breaking McD's bank? Not likely. But get a double cheeseburger now with two slices of cheese and see what it costs you. McDouble is proof McDonald's lost touch with what it is. (And for the record, I'll gladly pay slightly more for Wendy's as it is at least twice as good as McD's)

Why not just make the existing menu more affordable? The prices at especially Wendy's and BK are pushing them into a range where you would be better off catching a special at a place like Applebees or Chili's instead.

That's more McD's fault than Burger King and Wendy's. You can't even find a ball pit near me. It's all mood lighting and overpriced garbage. McD's tried to change it up from targeting kids to catering to adults, jacked up their prices for "higher quality" food, changed their resteraunt style, and switched up their marketing. It seemed to work at first. So BK and WEndy's hopped on the bandwagon. Then McD's stock tanked as people realized you can get better food for similar prices elsewhere. (five guys is unarguably better than McDonald's, but now costs the same? Who is going to go to McDonald's?) So thank the golden arches. I mean, they charge $1 PER PIECE of bacon in my area. That's asinine.

Is this salad in the .99 section? So would it qualify as more bad cheap food, or just chemically coated apple food?

I'm addicted to their Apple Walnut Salad. The small one which is $3.99 leaves me stuffed. Yum. I'm good for one of these three times a week.

I like that salad, too! Sometimes I save the little packs of pecans and use them as snacks when hiking.

I take everthing, including two dressings, throw it in the cuisinart and have chopped salad. If they only give me one dressing, I add vegetable oil, raspberry vinegar and a touch of sugar. Delicious!! Then I get to burn off some of the calories with the clean up. Am I sounding a little OCD?

I don't consider a Wendy's nice, beefy (not fatty) burger and a nice fresh salad fast food (ProudToBeVeryLiberal Huffer Person). It's food fast. Convenient. Right here, right now. And, it is not crap. It's yumo!

For a single person living by themselves there isn't much difference in price from eating out to eating at home. Food in bulk is much cheaper, but then you aren't able to eat it all by yourself and you end up throwing it out anyway.

no matter what they do the one here locally has bad food and managers who do not care, I used to stop there on my way home from work several times a week Ordered the same sandwich, in one 8 day period they screwed it up 3 times. I called the store and the manager blamed me for not checking before I drove away. What? You make it wrong and I am your quality control.
