GE had a bad rep for price fixing, back then. Now, they just don't pay taxes.

Is that a reference to the 'phases of the moon' conspiracy?

In 1961 the Justice Department indicted several dozen companies, GE among them, for criminal price fixing in the electrical equipment business. A couple of years before the indictments Senator Estes Kefauver had conducted an investigation that found that GE and its "competitors" were submitting identical bids to major customers like the Tennessee Valley Authority. All of the defendants decided to plead guilty to the charges. GE was fined $437,000 and ended up paying tens of millions of dollars in damages in civil suits brought by customers. Several company executives paid personal fines and received short jail sentences.

if it werent for the historical value it would be a teardown for sure, and by LA standards its strictly entry level. It looks like its got a large lot tho...it will be interesting to see if it does go for lot value or a mid century modern lover fixes it up. The Reagans net worth was never all that great. When he really had the opportunity to cash in after his presidency he got sick and couldnt. A chunk of their modest wealth I would guess would have come from the profit from sale of santa barbara ranch years ago.

Papa Bear should buy it as a museum for all things old and out of touch.
They could have GOP meetings there.

The home is lovely but compared to the rich and famous today, $5 million seems like a mere pittance. In fact, I saw an episode of Extreme Rooms on HGTV and some homes had rooms in their homes worth almost $5 million.

The house is just like Ronald Reagan - lovely to look at but horribly out of touch with current times.

Mid-century Modern. The views are nice, but the kitchen looks like it belongs in a hotel or something. I'm not so fond of the "industrial" look to some of the features. I also suspect it looked a bit different when the Reagans lived there, the black, grey and cream color scheme doesn't seem very reflective of the Reagans.
