Too bad she was babbling. It's always a bit embarrasing when someone is being celebrated for their solidarity with a group and makes a fool of herself in the process. And, come on, Mel Gibson "saved me?" He can't even save himself, or at least not his career.

Mel Gibson saved her? Did he sponsor her membership in the Aryan Nation?

I know Mel has struggled with sobriety. But was clean for over a decade. Considering her professional career and the Hinckley situation. I wonder if when she says he "saved her" he helped her to find or seek treatment for alcohol or drug abuse.

Good for her for coming, or technically, already being out. That doesn't bother me at all.

However, I am troubled by her continued support and friendship with a racist, homophobic, violent chauvinist.

I think there is some truth to the saying that you can judge a person by the company they keep.

Courtesy of Mel Gibson's publicist, who intended it for Gibson's big mouth.

Yes, she has been paraded before cameras and the public since she was 3. Yes, celebrity brings unwanted attention (see John Hinckley). Yes, everyone has a right to privacy. But if Jodie Foster came out 1,000 years ago, as she said, why the big grandstanding now? Why come out to the entire world when she's retiring - or whatever she said during that rambling, incoherent speech that she's going to be doing in the future? Why denigrate and diminish the suffering and bravery, the slings and arrows endured by millions of gay men and women comparing coming out to profiting by turning one's life into a reality show? Why not, Jodie, just issue a definitive statement through your press rep, or have some dignity by thanking, at the Golden Globes, your co-parent, Cydney, without the self-righteous grandstanding? Giant, emotional coming out performances are SO 20th century. But then, if she had come out during the 20th century, her little scene the other night would have been unnecessary.

Is oscars one of the movie ones or tv ones? Hard to keep track of all these award ceremonies even if you DO care.

The real entertainment is laughing at how much all these awards ceremonies are just hollywood people fluffing hollywood people to create (a false) sense of importance

No personalities have come out lately so they are repeating old news to make it seem like this has become a daily occurrence !! She has been out since the 80s !!!

Here are two things we didnt know about her.
1---that she is not grateful to the people who made her multi millionaire rich and that she didnt know that movies bring fame;
2--coming out that you are Mel Gibson's closest friend is, well, you know, not indicative of good character.

I'm so happy that everyones gay and happy and life is perfect and we can do whatever we want and don't even have to follow the rules of grammar or any other rules because after all rules dont feel good and feeling good is what makes us happy even if we are miserable and to the people who are gay who are really gay well you are gay and thats ok as long as its ok and as long as people keep telling you its cool and you love what you are doing and you know and well and all that but maybe not who can say

Good for her. No one in America should have to be reluctant to be who they are. And it has nothing to do with who she is as a human, her acting ability, her intelligence, her caring.

Foster probably figured out that three people on he planet did NOT know. Just like HP, wait til almost everyone knows, then do a story about it.
I do not care about other people's private choices in sexual matters so it is a nonstory in that everyone already knew and probably nobody cares (or should).
The real story is that she associates herself with a hothead and racist like Gibson.

Perhaps this was a tactical move on Jodie Foster's part. Coming out in such a public manner may reduce her profile as an actress and allow her to semi-retire with less professional pressure. I am not in agreement with those who state that Jodie had any duty to the gay community to come out earlier. She is first and foremost an actress an her audiences are overwhelmingly straight folks. She maintained her image accordingly and to the benefit of the many projects to which she contributed. She was well aware that an earlier revelation would have distracted her audiences and reduced her value. So, hats off to Jodie Foster for putting a spectacular cap on a marvelous career.

OK Friends--My post yesterday-"Is everybody gay" was a joking reference to the Kevin Kline/Joan Cusack movie In & Out!

Y'all missed it completely! So now you have to go and see that fun 1997 flick!
