Tough loss for my girl Serena. She was playing so well but got tight in the 2nd set (and then the back spasms) and Sloane responded with real grit. I'm disappointed not to see Serena against Vika in the semi and a final showdown against Sharapova (now Li Na). But that's why they play, nothing is guaranteed.

The upside is even with her defeat tonight against Vika, Sloane is for real. She's got heavy groundstrokes, a great forehand with angles, is athletic and has terrific court sense. Hopefully this experience will elevate her game.

Way to pass the torch, Serena. Unclassy to say the least. Good on Sloane for the well-deserved win!

I don't recall Serena announcing her retirement. Nor do I expect her to retire any time soon.

I've always liked Venus, Serena? Not so much. I think losing with class is equally as important as winning with it. It's hard to look at all of her rages over the years and not think Serena is on the juice. Yelling at an umpire ala classic McEnroe is one thing. Ramming your racket into the court enough times to twist it into pieces is entirely another and she's done that numerous times. That type of explosive anger from athletes tells a story.

I'm glad she lost.

She looks more like a man than a woman.

Williams Sisters are: 1) constantly injuring themselves; 2) bigger than most NFL linebackers; 3) displaying fits of rage.... just to name a few. I'd like to know what kind of performance enhancing substances Williams and her sister uses that have the ability to not be detected.

There's zero chance Serena got that body from working out. Less than zero.
Incidentally these rage-fueled outbursts are pretty typical for serious ''roids user.

Yeah because I'm sure you are an expert in fitness. There are women with way more muscle than her and they get it through hard work at the gym and a disciplined diet, sorry you are happy with your beer belly that sits on your lap but others actually care for their bodies.

Williams smashed her racket into the court in the third set, breaking the frame and then flinging it toward the chairs on the side of the court. She looked to the sky occasionally and yelled at herself.

The racket abuse cost her $1,500 in fines.

We can do without the above?

Just like Brad Gilbert said,"of all the young talented American tennis players coming up he felt that Samantha Keys is the most talented of all and will be the next young American to win Grand Slams" and I agree. There is another Black young American tennis player by the name of Townsend coming up, watch out, she might be the most talented of all. So you have three Black American tennis players who could dominate tennis for many years, Sloane, Keys and Townsend. Congratulation Sloane, yes the Greatest female tennis player in history was injured but you hung in there. I hope you go all the way and you have a great future.

Sloan, America will back you until you threaten a line judge.

Win an lose in a classy way, that's all we ask.

Serena, pls just go away. If the women played 5 sets, women with an appropriate BMI would crush you. They have equal pay, so how about equal number of sets?

Hope that isn't true! It wouldn't be for me. I'm just thankful for women's tennis because the points are long enough that strategically moving your opponent around is still part of the game.
If I remember correctly, 70% of the points are three ball strikes: the serve, the return and one more. Not much strategy compared to the women. It's basically "just pound the ball for a winner or an error for the majority of points.

Can we have an independent transparent drug test for WTA... Please, I really enjoy the games but, c'mon... Look at some of these players... Yeah yeah yeah, genetics, hard work blah blah blah, If there were an independent test, that has no hat in the ring, testing, and publish the results on a monthly basis, otherwise, you have to figure there is doping, and why not.
Any player who protest this, let them give private lessons... Period.

I love the Williams sisters, but it's great to see another female of color on the court and winning. Keep doing great Sloane and be prepared for the "people" who can't stand to see a person of color succeeding and doing better than they are, just pity them and keep succeeding.

If people of color wouldn't point out people of color there wouldn't be an issue. Amazes me that people who cry discrimination are a some of the biggest discriminators.

Sloan, be purple if ya want, just win classy. Serena clearly has some issues, so that idolization should ebb.

Have to give it to Sloane. I never thought it could remotely happen. Serena got out of her centered space because of the injury, and Sloane took advantage. High hopes for the future of USA women's tennis. She's got the speed, the strokes, the moxy, and the court sense. Just wait until she REALLY gets good. Look out!
