I agree, the GOP has no regard for facts, aka reality.
05:21 PM on 01/30/2013
You might as well be a part of the GOP with that closed-mind, grow up

Nice try. However when one is debating what color the sky is, there is a correct answer. We're not talking about life after death or some other ambiguous idea.
The GOP is hostile towards factual observation. Period.

It are the people who are the backbone of the Senate and thus if they are broken then the Senate is as well. The American electoriate deserves to have a government that does not vilify the otherside and can find compromise. The Right has gone so extreme that they have lost this and it will take the voters telling them no to their extremes for us to have a working government again.

When you send politicians to washington that say evolution is a lie from hell, yes Sen. kerry the people are broken.

When you have panels of all white middle aged men in the year 2012 discussing what they will allow as far as birth control, yes, Sen. Kerry the people are broken.

When you have a certain party changing the rules to electing a president based on the changing demographics of america, yes, Sen. Kerry the people are broken.

And when you have people making 50K a year struggling to get by supporting policitians who want to give them vouchers when they are seniors, cut taxes on the wealthy, cut regulations that protect those same people (envorirment, workplace safety, etc.), when you have people voting for politicians who want to eliminate minimum wage but increase tax cuts for corporations, YES, Sen. Kerry the people are broken.

Great post. Here's one more consideration. We could elect and send 99 progressive Senators to the Senate, yet if even one remaining GOP or intransigent Blue Dog Senator remains, he/she is empowered to obstruct by filibuster or even worse, has two opportunities to insert poison pills in all legislation with two amendments recently extracted and agreed upon by GOP during filibuster negations. The Senate absolutely is broken.

Well I'll be dunked in lard, deep fried, and called a donut... Finally--an elected politician who is saying that I've been saying for years: Government isn't the problem, it's some of the people in government that are the problem.

...but, here's the important corollary. Elections DO have consequences and "we, the people" can't avoid our responsibility for that.

I agree completely. What kills me is the hypocrisy of the right-wing; they preach about being the party of smaller government--but then they want to legislate your rights away. The worst part is, the people who vote for them are actually voting for a nanny-state type of government--and they don't even get it!

Senate is ONLY AS GOOD as the HEARTS that it serves- the people- NOT THEMSELVES!
The system is GOOD- best in the world; The intention and hearts of the men within, I question.
Are We ALL going to work together to make a better US (United States) OR
cusion a FEW Seats? It must be VERY LONELY upthere! HAVE HEART or Lose a good life.

John Kerry, D-France, is emblematic of all that is wrong with Washington, DC and the liberals in the US Senate. These people have an overinflated opinion of both themselves and the policies that they look to implement - whether you want them or not. Sadly, it will take four more years of O for people to finally wake and realize the extent of the damage they will have done to the US.

Wake up and realize that "compromise" doesn't work and all decisions should be made by the GOP?

Yeah... let me introduce you to Kettle.

When brazen corruption is the rule rather than the exception, the institution is broken. This is like having a prison with no bars and saying it's the inmates' fault for not staying in their cells. Given the opening to choose, man will always place his own interests over the well being of others, up to and including their demise in exchange for just a little more personal wealth. Senators don't need to be asked to be honest, they need to be locked up when they aren't.

Abolish the Senate with a Constitutional Amendment. Tomorrow afternoon won't be soon enough.

Why does the headline say he said the people are broken. I don't see that quote anywhere in the article.

Because HuffPo likes to run misleading and disingenuous headlines, although I've yet to figure out why. Kerry is saying that the people of Congress are what need to be fixed, though the headline seems to intentionally lead readers to think Kerry is insulting the American public.

Shame on you AGAIN, Huff Po. If I didn't know any better, I'd think that Arianna sold out to Faux News.

Huff Post needs to find headline writers out of puberty.

Read again. I agree it's another "headline abuse" but he points to the "People in the Senate" as being the problem - not merely the rules......Read it again. I think he makes a very good farewell address.

The first step to solving a problem is admitting you have a problem. Sen. Kerry just wanted a "feel good" farewell. All the Senate problems are behind him.

John Kerry "I was for it before I was against it!" Can't wait to see his waffling act as SOS! He sounds like Ray Lewis...born again and living la vida loca. Too bad there are a stream of broken lives behind these two men.

You're still quote mining John Kerry after nearly 10 years? Do you just say things like that to make yourself feel better, or do you actually think other people are convinced by that?
