I figured the article would say they put themselves out of business. Either that or they figured out a way to stop Google from spying on us.

Ah yes, Microsoft saving the world, one computer at a time.

I don't understand why people make a mockery of Microsoft, as if other OS's don't have their share of vulnerabilities. Fact of the matter is everybody is at risk as soon as they plug in. The only way to stop yourself from being exposed online is to NOT go online. Being that we are so interconnected today that would be highly improbable. Users should be more aware of the threats and dangers that exist. I can't tell you how many times I've taught my security class and the number of individuals that were totally unaware of what was going on.

No, Windows NT's internals look a lot like VMS.

Let's go back before computers, Iphones, tablets, etc. No ones identity was stolen so easily. Way too much time and money spent on electronics. Everyone will survive without all those items. Probably people will actually learn to communicate with each other.

Never forget, fear sells. Fear is a very good marketing tool... By the way, did MS mention that their newest OS -- Windows 8 -- has built-in doodads and all that?
05:52 AM on 02/07/2013
They eliminated all the gadgets out of Windows 7. in Windows 8.

I use Linux operating systems like debian based distros and android. It's kind of ironic as I am an mcse, but back when I still worked I did not enjoy fixing stuff at home after doing it all day at work. Glad I am not a Gynecologist!

Yep, you and those other hundred people must really enjoy using Linux - as adapted to work with Windows, of course. LOL

On the home front MS leaves quite a bit to be desired, but in an Enterprise environment, there isnt another company that can touch Microsoft.

Actually Windows has been shown to be pretty secure, at least Vista and onward. The problem Windows has is 2 things.

1. They are the biggest target, if your going to make a virus, you going to want it to work for windows, because that will give you the biggest amount of targets.
2. Third party software, Microsoft does not make everything you put on your computer, a lot of attacks are done from a security vulnerability by a third party software.

That said they need to do a better job with IE, chrome and Firefox are beating them on that point.

IE is an ancient clunk by comparison to many of the newer browsers -- BUT the latter open the door for unknown intruders.

Interesting fact about botnets. The Justice Department operated a botnet that they took from criminals. They used it to hose Wikileaks after the site moved to Amazon cloud. They goosed Amazon during the holiday shopping season. There's ton of evidence but they are way above the law these days.
