I'll try anything twice. The first time round, novelty might cloud my judgement.

When that dude crosses the Rainbow Bridge, he'd better be lookin' out for a squid with a
bottle of soy sauce waiting for him on the other side.

maybe in addition to 'do not rescusitate' orders, hosptials should provide, 'lightly sautee in soy sauce before pulling the plug' orders.

am I the only one who sees the squid moving before the soy sauce is put on, maybe still partially alive, just out of habitat and then tricked with soy sauce

I've seen this in person before and i assure you it is dead. Is a snake with the head chopped off still alive? Those things will move for hours and the head will still try to bite you.

---the video also shows why sharp shiny cutlery is superior to sticks when eating semi-deceased things found in water.

I'm not buying that "explanation", that squid is still kicking.

game over man!

As a person who is very familiar with cephalopods, I can assure you the brain is located almost directly underneath the eyes and would still be intact in this specimen. Only the squid knew at this point if he was alive or not.
08:13 PM on 07/16/2013
Still, judging from how it reacts to people poking it, it doesn't seem to be alive. I've seen clips of people poking the squid before the sauce was poured and it didn't move, but once soy sauce entered it went crazy. I'd err the side of caution and not eat it though.

To each his own. For me, I'll pass on this dish. It does look cool to watch, though.
