It's all...odd.

Obviously very sorry that woman died.
That aside- She was an "amateur photographer" , using a smart phone and an Ipad?
Couldn't afford 50 bucks for a digital camera?
Was hanging out with men she met on instagram?
Not all relationships work out. Sad for everyone involved

I recently chatted with a man who will be conducting a workshop on iphone photography and who won an award here in NYC for a very interesting photo he snapped with his phone. Who knows? We may be embarking on a new form in photography. Maybe it can't compare technically to what can be accomplished with actual cameras, but perhaps an adjunct form may be on the horizon. Don't knock it.

Husband sounds like a nice guy. He wanted a good solid marriage, but his wife went looking for love in a really wrong place. I wish the husband well in his search for a good, faithful wife. In the meantime, for the safety of other women, her killer must be found and punished.

Speculation. Maybe the husband was stalking and controlling and she was trying to take a break from his oppressive ways? BTW I can support my theory too just like I'm sure you can.
05:21 PM on 02/13/2013
That is one heck of a speculation; her oppressive and controlling SOB of a husband chased her into the arms of strange Istanbul men. Based on the messages her husband wrote to her in the above article, she was the one wearing the pants in the relationship. She was bored with her marriage and bored with her husband. He wasn't showing her the passion she so desired and these strange Istanbul men were through their emails to her, so she went to hook up with them (oh...and to take pictures with them also, let's not forget that part). That is how it went down.

You can support your theory, but yours is much less plausible.

Turkish police are looking for a 46-year-old street paper collector in their investigation of the murder of the New York mother who was bludgeoned to death during a solo trip to Istanbul, it was revealed today.

Investigators think he may have tried to accost Sarai and when she resisted, he may have killed her in the ensuing struggle.

Authority is not the truth, truth is the authority

Reports in Turkish media have said the two had sex in a bathroom in a bar, but in a statement put out by Taylan K.'s lawyer, he said the two met for tea. Police have said he is not a suspect.
This is a pretty shameless misrepresentation of the truth.  Do you see how this line is written so the reader is influenced to believe it's just hearsay that they had sex in a bathroom?  Well, it's not hearsay, Taylan K. is the one who said they had sex in a bar bathroom.

The author doesn't actually say anything untrue mind you.  It is true that reports in Turkish media have said this - but it's also true that media reports in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and elsewhere say this as well.  And it may be true that Taylan said they met for tea, but he also said they had sex.  Pretty sneaky "reporting".

"This is a pretty shameless misrepresentation of the truth."

Is it? What if the man is lying and trying to downplay their real relationship? What if people saw or heard what they were doing?

To leave out the fact that the man himself told police they had sex is deceptive. Not mentioning it all for days (which HP did) was bad enough, but then to say...ok, ok, we admit there is some "speculation" out there... and to try to couch it as "speculative reporting" or ... well his lawyer just said they met for tea is deceptive. A real reporter would ask the lawyer; "Okay, they met for tea. Did your client say they had sex - yes or no?" See the difference? Did the lawyer deny reports that they had sex? No, he deflected the question.

I forgot to add that while police did say "he is not a suspect", they offered more insight as to why, stating; "we don't care if they had sex, we care about who killed her".  Police took blood and semen specimens from Taylan and 21 other suspects.  Is the picture coming into focus?

This is typical for Huffpo/Gawker. They have a problem questioning the actions of women unless she is a non-liberal or on a red carpet. If this had been a man...

Anything is possible.

But, the question would be then...How did it all go down? For example, we have not heard suspected time of death? If it was true that the last time he spoke to her on Jan 14, then it is possible for him to have something set up.

Jeanne Rysiewicz is a 26 year old woman who mysteriously vanished from an Texas airport just moments before she and her family boarded a plane. This was back in Oct and no word since.

So, yeah, it is very possible the hubby set something up and maybe the solo isn't as strange as we think it is? Maybe the hubby was the one who decided she should go knowing that at some point she would be murdered by a contact.

Not to drift too far off into fantasyland here, but how did she know this "criminal element" in Turkey? Were they friends of the family? Of her husband? Did he set her up? And all his sad Instagram messages proclaiming to the world what a good guy he is, is a cover.

It sounds like they had a strained relationship and she was looking around for another partner or interest. The fact she is staying with men she does not know while she is traveling is troubling. She apparently had enough money for a hotel, why stay with a person that you met online? I do not think we will ever know. Who I feel bad for is the children who may never know what happened and/or who are learning about another side of their mother through the unfiltered eyes and often biased, misrepresenting media.

And there you have it folks.....She went overseas to meet up with strange guys...errrrr....friends that she met online. When are these girls going to realize that every guy seems like prince charming when all you are doing is reading emails from them? They all seem like exciting breaths of fresh air from their current "boring" husbands. She should have listened to her husband's pleas to save their marriage, because if she did then that would have saved her life.

She met with photographers, she also met with 9 men and 11 women in NYC as a group from Instagram. Learn the facts, huffpost won't report them.
04:31 PM on 02/13/2013
Well maybe her husband should havd learnt the facts before sending her those messages, because apparently he saw things the very same way I did. Furthermore, her death would indicate things were more along the way I see them as well. She is meeting up with strangers she met online. They will say the have the same interests as her so she will meet them. They can be a photographer to one girl, a swimmer to a second girl, and a 12-year old boy to a third girl. That is the beauty of meeting people over the internet; you can lie.
05:36 PM on 02/13/2013
I don't care how many people she met as part of a group in NYC. She was killed overseas where she was apparently meeting and staying with men she only knew through the Internet. That's unwise and unsafe behavior.

I'm not saying this man had anything to do with the death of his wife, but I know my own husband would not have allowed me to travel alone to Turkey. This woman had never traveled there, so she was unfamiliar with the culture and the country. Now that we find out their relationship was rocky, I can understand that she may have wanted some time alone without her husband, but with a couple that had been together for more than 15 years, I would have expected the husband to be far more concerned about the safety of his wife.

He told the NY Times that their relationship was not rocky, I post instagram quotes all of the time and my relationship is GREAT. Women don't have to get permission to breathe, they aren't to be confined to a kitchen either. I explained all of this already but HuffPost won't approve my comment which refutes the entire article.
05:42 PM on 02/13/2013
It is odd when either the man or woman in a marriage leave the spouse and children behind and goes off on a solo vacation overseas when they've never traveled outside the country before. She was choosing to share one of the biggest adventures of her life with strangers rather than family. Why? "Oh, just because..." doesn't cut it. It's odd behavior.
10:46 AM on 03/26/2013
better to get permission to breathe and be confined to a kitchen than to be a hard headed lib. woman killed and stuffed in wall in Turkey.

This was 1 big disgusting story created by the media for sensationalism, ad views, newspaper sales, etc. Turkish police said that a homeless man is now wanted for the murder. I post relationship instagram quotes ALL THE TIME, no problems in my marriage either. The man never had sex with her, he said it was false. And now even Huffington Post is engaging in this sensationalism after this innocent woman was beaten to death and then re-murdered by the media for profits. Thanks.
