Obama said last night..........."Let's make it a national priority to give every child access to a high-quality early education," Obama said Thursday. "Let's give our kids that chance." A brightly colored banner behind the audience read, "PRESCHOOL FOR ALL.".....................He lied.   " The new program would only guarantee federal funding to states for the schooling of 4-year-olds from  Read More...

What loving and responsible parents would choose to relinquish their young children to government indoctrination??

this is a) not remotely surprising, and b) still a good idea anyway. ask yourself, would you rather pay 15k per year for 3 years to educate them, or, would you rather spend 30k a year to keep them in jail for 25 years? i for one would rather pay for schools than jails/welfare/food stamps/WIC/unemployment/health care/etc..........

I'd rather go with option C) Stop breeding and actually become a responsible parent.

Children can be raised in wonderful homes, and have all the benefits in the world, and they still end up in jail, or worse. Stop generalizing.

no, we aren't. nationally, less than 40% of children are in formal pre-k education.

Well who can't be for pre school for all, that is a tough program to argue against. I would argue though that it would be better for the President to focus on the break down of the family unit, morals, respect, and a reverence for education and educators and the results would likely be much more dramatic.

"Well who can't be for pre school for all, that is a tough program to argue against"

It's not for all. He describes it that way so that if you argue the facts against it, he can simply dismiss you as being heartless.

- Single dental assistant mother of one making $32,000? You're out of luck.
- A father with a stay-at-home wife and six kids making $79,000? Free pre-k for you!

But I guess the single mother does have another option. If she has a couple more kids she can boost her free-cheese threshold to $47,000

It's true. Middle class is a hard class to be in. You make too much to get anything for free, but not enough to afford anything...

Pre school for all! No whites with shoes allowed.

Since the 47% who don't pay any federal income tax will disproportionately use this dubious Obama proposal, they're the ones that need to pay "their fair share" and be taxed for this. If they like ‘free stuff’ so much, pay up. The gravy train is over.

The WSJ had an article yesterday noting that a study commissioned by the Dept. of Education showed that Head Start had negligible results for children and any improvement leveled off with other non-Head Start children by third grade. And here is Barry talking about how if four year olds aren't in school their whole lives may be affected. Let four year olds stay home with their mother or father!! Our public schools are doing such a great job let's have them start on four year olds!

Don't we all understand now why Obama won't release his college transcripts?? Not a lot going on up there.

Liberalism, take a failed program , double down and make it universal.....

I don't even think we had pre-school (NJ early 70s).
Kindergarten was 1/2 day.
I have a master's degree and a 20+ year career in IT. Most of my friends went to college and became some sort of professional, doctors, or lawyers.
Yeah, sure, spend more of our money so our kids can't go to pre-school to hand it to some other kid to go. Yep that seems fair.

Taxpayers pay for ALL government programs, the government has no money of its own.
10:00 AM on 02/15/2013
Then don't you think we as taxpayers should have some say in what our money is spent on, I don' remember giving any kind of OK for our trillions in debt do you??? Obviously our legislators don't bother to get any input from the taxpayers as to what they spend money on, and then there is the 47% reciepant class that doesn't contribute anything!!!
07:32 AM on 02/15/2013
I don't know if I'm for it or not.

To me it depends on what kind of Pre-K we're talking about, if it's going to be an extension to Kindergarten, 7 hours on a chair, 10 minutes of recess, learn to walk in a line while quiet, work sheet after work sheet with multiple choice questions, I say Heck NO!

But, if we sent a delegation over to Finland to learn how they teach their kids from the age 18mo. then I'm all for it!

I still believe it would be better to put more effort in the teaching in high school though. The senior year for most is a la-la land, and if we got just 2hours of PE for everybody and give all the time effort and money that is now spent on sport to the academics, well maybe we wouldn't get as many gold medals in the Olympics, but we get a higher educated population!

Its the type of schooling that will allow another generation to understand that the nanny state will take care of you from birth to death. Bring'em back onto the plantation, times is good here.

Typical program of this administration. It is all about buying votes for couples who want to save on day care. Let the Government raise my child. We can find out the details of this .........after we pass the bill.
