A new arms race is in no one's interest.

I think that a new arms race would be a great thing. Just might break the US money wise. Then they would not be trying to control so many different countries and maybe then stay home where they belong.

A new arms race is in no one's interest, and this is particularly true of countries that would compete agains the US defense industry, which is about 25 years ahead. The whole enterprise costs an incredible amount, and an arms race would just makes things worse. In addition, drones are unregulated, so there is no international anti-proliferation regime, and thus essentially no restraints whatsoever on their deployment. It is a peculiar anomaly that there is an international missile regime, but not one for drones. So for example, if Iran focused their efforts on drones instead of missiles for delivery of their future thermonuclear weapons, there would be no legal argument against the deployment of that delivery system. Terrorists (non-state actors) will start to build drones eventually.

FTA - America's unease with China's drone program

I guess they didn't get the memo that only the US is supposed to have drones.

GOD, the US is the most hypocritical nation on earth

If you're entering the drone race now, you've probably already lost.

How naive you are, China can just buy a drone manufacturer and eventually own the market. China has the money and will to do anything militarily that they want. Now that the Obama administration has justified the use of drones to the world, the whole world will be buying, developing and using them. Heck, we are even selling hundreds of drones to the Emeriates in the middle east.

Now, yes.  But do you think this was started last year or something?  This has been in development for many years, that's the point.  We've made drone technology ubiquitous to the point of it being commonplace.  The technology of the future is being developed right now and if you're just now hoping to steal or buy technology that people have been using for years, then you're a tad behind.

Washington permitted China to purchase a US airplane manufacturer that was a contractor to the Pentagon, in making the skins for drones, during development of the drone technology that we see today. The company did participate in a Pentagon competition of vendors that would provide drones.

Now China owns all that intellectual information, and the manufacturing facility can very easily and quickly be converted to drone manufacturing.

North Korea and Kim Jung Un will be pursuing drone technology and equip their drones with suitcase-sized nukes or biological warfare agents.

This US and its compliant media are positively paranoid and hysterical. It's straight out of Dr. Strangelove. Next thing you know there will be politicians demanding we spend billions closing the "drone gap" while domestic programs, infrastructure, and the economy fall into greater and greater disarray. China is going to be the next hegemonic power, it will dominate its region, and there's nothing the US can do about that. In fact, we should welcome it. Dismantle the Empire and save a ton. Guard the home waters and the home territories. Stop pretending it's 1953. The world has moved on.

We set the example and now we complain about China imitating us ! That is called hypocrisy ! We have to live with the fact that the "Rise Of The Machines" is taking place all over the world !
