12,600 dead pigs in the river and republicans are still going to vote for candidates that support fewer regulations. Fewer regulations equals more pigs in the water. Have some more bacon!

Why does every waking thought have to be about a dislike for republicans? What do the republicans have to do with regulations in China for goodness sake? That country has it's own responsibility to it's people for sanitary conditions or the lack thereof. The bigger problem is why aren't these animals being treated at the very least humanely as they are being disposed of. As for our country, there have been almost 5,500 new regulations passed in the last 90 days. How many more do you want?

jobscabin, is a prime example of someone who wants a socialist or communist, one party government, because he thinks that he won't have to work and will be spoon fed by the government!!! So typical of the libs!

Hum, usually its unwanted and dead female babies floating in the rivers. Did Thomas Friedman’s favorite government institute a one pig per family law? I’ll guess Joe Biden also “fully understands” this policy.

Two separate issues, both about cruelty. No need to choose which to be concerned about.

The Chinese have an agricultural heritage that dates back thousands of years.
They waste very little. If they tossed those pigs instead of using them for "anything" it suggests a very serious issue.

What it shows is a total lack of concern for anyone other than themselves, dumping diseased pigs into the source of drinking water for millions of people downstream. Instead of notifying and working with authorities to learn the source of the problem, they simply dump it into the river; out of sight, out of mind. Then there's the other side of this ugly issue: the ones who knowingly butchered diseased pigs and sold the meat to unsuspecting buyers. This smacks of the same sort of mentality we saw with avian flu.

Industrial pollution, contamination of waterways, disregard for the health and safety of animals and humans...when will man cease being so greedy? This is going to continue with cover ups and blame being tossed here and there.

These poor little piggies never made it to market. What a shame and a waste due to greed, over production, unsanitary conditions, carelessness. The pigs lived and died a tragic life.

Instead of being cooped up in a building in pens so tight they can barely move for their entire life, never seeing sunshine, their waste running down through Through their pen into a mass collection system to be stored in a stinking pool of sledge that reeks up the countryside and when it overflows fouls up the drinking water and the land...that's how WE handle our pigs

The article was about China so that is what I concentrated on.  I do not agree with pens, cages for birds or any confinement.  I believe in the old fashioned ways of caring for animals on small, family farms.  But, to be honest, I have eaten mostly Foster Farms chicken, when I do feel the need to buy chicken, which is becoming more rare each month.  I am sickened by the thoughts of mistreatment of corporate influenced ill treated,  tortured and maimed animals made to suffer, needlessly.  It should go without saying, I don't like abuse  in China, USA, Mexico, etc.

I would not drink the water with or without the piglets.  That should go without saying.  I cannot write a novel.  My first paragraph clearly mentioned contamination of waterways...re-read it.

12,000 pigs dumped in the river and the Government cant find the source!! Could it be a Government Pig Farm??? Government Slueths cant find the source......I suggest they give two 12 year old boys in Jianxing 50 RMB and that mystery will be solved in one day.

Is there any mention of autopsy of one of these pigs to find out what is killing them? I didnt see any mention of that.

The Water in Shanghei is safe to drink???? When did that happen?? The Water hasn't been safe to drink anywhere in China for the last 60 years. Well Mountain tops perhaps.

I sense a really big Cover Up occuring here.

Where is Paul Harvey when you need him. I need the REST OF THE STORY.

Oh no... Says the Chinese government... There's nothing worrisome here... No epidemic... No reason for farmers to just start dumping dead pigs by the thousands into the river. Nothing that would make them want to get the bodies as far away from themselves as fast as possible... Nope. Nothing to see here folks... Just carry on with your daily lives. We're the same government that tried to cover up tainted baby formula, toothpaste and pet food... But we've learned our lesson and will come clean about this whole thing.

For years the Chinese Government has been forcing farmers off their own land just so the Government can build businesses and cities. This is the farmers revenge.

Did anyone stop to think that it is nothing for God who is the creator of all things, to create these pigs from nothing? Afterall, He is the Creator...discount what you want but no matter what mankind says or thinks, God is in control and if He so chooses, He can create out of nothing..a hard concept for many to grasp since science needs something in order to produce something. Piggie problems and more will continue since mankind fails and refuses to acknowledge God.
06:31 AM on 03/17/2013
YES, I DID.
07:19 AM on 03/17/2013
Of course God created 12,000 dead pigs and dumped them into already disgustingly polluted water. The Ultimate Magic Man was having a bad day and decided to create dead pigs from nothing and dump them in water that you can't drink anyway. You know those other stories are much better.....Putting fish in a Baren Sea and dropping Mana from Heaven was pretty cool.......But dropping 12,000 bloated dead pigs in the water is a little out of character.
