"Texas Begins Offensive Against Ethnic Studies"
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much anything that comes out of the Texas Legislature is offensive.

Does that mean you aren't going to be one of my fans? Take care, now, you hear.

Technically, aren't studies centered around the white european immigrants that 'colonized' this country also considered ethnic studies?

During the last election cycle, the irresponsible wing of the Republican brand, led by Romney/Ryan, went to great lengths to further polarize the country by reinforcing the politics of racial fear, attacks on women, anti-gay bigotry, etc. After failing miserably, only a few months later panic has set-in and the Etch-A-Sketch has come-out as some "leaders" are trying to put a new face on the party in order to be competitive in 2016. The problem is, all the millions of dollars spent driving home intolerance and hate has stuck on some of the intended targets.

"The irony, of course, is that when the Euro-American experience is normalized to be the “comprehensive” experience, that results in the privileging of the narrow views and experiences of a specific ethnic and racial group (whites) whose experiences are misrepresented as the one true measure of the history of the nation or the state. I guess the white male legislators didn’t think of that."

NO, Son, that's not "irony," that's their precise INTENT. You just happened to articulate it, and they would prefer you not.

Imagine what would happen if Massachusetts passed a law that they would no longer teach the history of the Irish in America!
That's the difference between the North and the South right there. The difference between education and ignorance!

I disagree that it is a North , South thing, but more a Bible Belt conservative issue. The same people doing this are also advocating for Creative Intelligence to be taught in the schools right along side of Evolution. Luddites one might say!

The Republican Party Platform 2013.
Keep America White at all costs.
Keep Christian as the only religion.
Bring back Christian prayer in public schools.
Keep health care, away from as many Americans as possible.
An AR 15 and Glock in every White Christian household by 2014.
Lower the tax rate for the wealthy.
Zero women's rights.
Preserve the sanctity of marraige between a MAN and WOMAN ONLY, but allow divorce for $99.95.

Other than the first oil strike, the Alamo and Juneteenth, what could be interesting about Texan history to get credit to satisfy the history requirement?

Didn't the CPAC thingy just conclude that one of the MANY reasons the GOP is failing is because of their insensitivity and appearance of exclusion?

Dump The Teapot
08:59 PM on 03/18/2013
History should be taught in a comprehensive way so that it covers the experiences and contributions of all groups. Our nation is very diverse and teaching history from one viewpoint ignores that. Properly taught history is a great vehicle for teaching critical thinking but Teaxas does not want that.
09:38 PM on 03/18/2013
Dont you just love the use of the word "comprehensive"? We should teach history in a "comprehensive wasy." We whould have "comprehensive" immigration reform. How is this for comprehensive:
1. Seal the border using the National Guard until enough Border Agents are trained
2. Pass a law denying citizenship and residency to anyone here illegally
3. Pass of law that provides draconian penalties to anyone employing illegal aliens
4. Cut off all non-emergency assistance paid for by taxpayers
5. Deport any illegal alien within 7 days
6. Establish a special temporary worker visa which must be applied for in native country
7. Cut of all Federal aid to any State or municipality providing sanctuary
Is this comprehensive enough for you?
08:55 PM on 03/18/2013
Well this should really garner the Latino votes for the GOP in the next election.
