Rand's comment about making every employer a policeman is silly.
Every employer is ALREADY a policeman - for the IRS!
E-Verify is not much more difficult than sending in tax info which employers already do. Also, just as income taxes are crucial for funding our government and our social welfare system, E-Verify could be just a crucial in making sure that only legal labor is used,  Read More...

OK... If I wanted a person in this country who was I assume is an illegal immigrant, wouldn't I want them to be a Citizen? I don't get it. Loyalty, patriotism, citizenship. I know many will say these immigrants don't care about loyalty and patriotism. I disagree. If you're an immigrant wants to work, live and stay here...demand loyalty and patriotism. Make them take the oath of Citizenship and hold them to it. These people are our no different than our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents! Take a look at YOUR family tree. My personal experience is that many of the non-status workers here today are more involved in Citizenship than most US citizens.

The difference was that our grandparents wanted to become Americans, and they did. It meant something to them to become a U.S. citizen. The illegal Hispanics don't want citizenship, because then they'll have to pay taxes and it will recorded as to their where abouts in this country in case we want to deport them. All they want after getting their backs wet, is the American Greenback when working for cash only, and no taxes are taken out of it. How many Trillions of dollars is Uncle Sam in debt? We have nothing more to give away!

Actually there already is a place for illegal immigrants. It's called Mexico and Latin America. What should be done and what Romney was to tounge-tied to say about "self deportation" is that it is possible if strong measures were taken by America(such as no aid or trade) to force economic changes in Latin America such as private property laws and all measures necessary to destroy socialism and grow free market capitalism. It's too bad that South America was settled by the Catholic Spaniards instead of Northern Protestants. The same hapless failure we see in South Europe we see in Latin America.Popes priests and caudillos lording over the uneducated.Change the South-you'll have few illegals.

Funny how so many would deport all those millions of immigrants back to their nations of origin with the snap of a finger if they could claiming that they are taking jobs that could be occupied by Americans, but even funnier how so very few of those outraged ones would be willing to perform those jobs because they consider them low, menial, degrading or even insulting.
It's pretty much:
"..kick them out, ..invaders..felons..".
"Alright, are you going to take that job? ..Sounds like you're interested.."
"...Me? ...nah...never... that's for....well...not for Americans."

This illegal immigration issue is truly a watershed for our entire government. I will be watching for the proposal with bated breath. Honestly, it does not get more exciting than this! The politicians are grovelling for votes. Illegals are hoping/praying for the outcome to be in their favor. Many Americans are vehemently opposed to any kind of amnesty. Our "leaders" are looking at reversing immigration law that has been in place for tens of years, and immigration philosophy that has been in place for thousands. Really interesting. But I can't help but think that I am reading "The Emperor's New Clothes". When it is all over I think there will a lot of embarrassment and hard feelings from all parties involved.
06:13 AM on 03/20/2013
Good point. 27 years of immigration law thrown away. We didn't mean it. Our real immigration system was unlimited. Tens of millions rewarded for ignoring our sovereignty and violating our law. Not just getting to stay but with a vote which effectively dilutes YOUR vote.

And when I say, "immigration philosophy that has been in place for thousands", think of the Great Wall of China, which was built to keep out "illegals".  We are really going against human nature here.  I have a suspicion there will be massive regret if we do something irrational.  This looks like "The Emperor's New Clothes" to me.  Thanks for the reply.  And cheers!

Here's my plan. Let's get 10 million of us together and not pay our taxes. Then we will promise to give our vote to the party that grants us amnesty for not paying. We win. They win. Hey, laws were made to be broken...

Sir, these individuals, no matter what country they came from have broken federal law by staying past the time they were permited to be here or came in illegally by other means. If an American citizen breaks a law they will stand trial and be prosecuted to the full extent if found guilty. The President has even said that he would only allow those illegals who had not broken the law, when in fact he is saying that breaking a federal law coming here illegally is not being taken into consideration. E-verify also will stop employers from hiring ilegals so they can be paid less and in fact many do take jobs that craftsmen/women would do and if had to take the lower paying job. Our economy is in the toilet right now and by adding 2 million people a year is ridiculous and I feel illegal as to allow these law breakers to stay if they can't get here legally they need to stay put.
11:52 PM on 03/19/2013
Actually, overstaying a Visa and entering the country illegally are CIVIL crimes. Yes, we are a nation of laws, but the punishment varies according to the crime. That is one reason why the deport them all argument is misguided. It would be like saying put ALL people in prison for violating ANY law, even something as simple as speeding. Obviously that would be ludicrous. So is trying to round up and deport 11 million plus people, many whose only "crime" is being here without legal status. Under every proposal, people will be required to undergo a background check. A personal with a felony criminal record, even if the criminal record is from a country other than the USA will not be able to qualify for the conditional legal status. And, since those people will likely NOT come forward if these reforms pass, it will make them even easier to be targeted by ICE. This is far from amnesty, considered any pan is likely to include background checks, and a fine just to get provisional status. Then afer waiting a yet to be determined number of years(probably 5-10), there will be more fees, a citizenship test, a physical, an English test and other requirements to be met just to qualify for a green card. Actual citizenship is likely as much as 15 years away for most people, unless they qualify in other already legal ways. Even then, it will be more than 5 years before a person becomes a citizen.

If the fact of the matter is that home invasion may be a felony for invasion of a country is but a civil crime, then the law, and punishment do not fit the crime.

Simple enough.

Unless of course you have no problem with home invasion by 'certain' foreign nationals?

Breaking into America and stealing from legal citizens-legal
Go to jail for breaking into a home--certainly

Good luck with that Rand! The primary beneficiary of the work of illegal immigrants is the Republican Party. Farmers vote Republican and they depend on illegal immigrants to bring in their crops. Most roofers and landscapers vote Republican too. There is no "path" to separate these businesses from their profits. But, by all means, give it a try.

Rand Paul and others are wrong on this. The push for amnesty is coming from those politicians that live the good life on our dole, because they have only ambitious, political, corporate and financial interests. They work for those with connections, money and influence that benefit while being far removed from the outcome of illegal immigration. They live in comfortable bubbles that are unaffected by the policies they pursue or allow.

More low paid unskilled labor that inevitably will require public financial support and it will not help average citizen Americans already being squeezed on every aspect of their life from wages, to education assistance, to retirement, and by what the high flying 1% of Wall St call entitlements.

This clique represents the same outrageous and treasonous viewpoint that has resulted in most American jobs being sent to China etc by those in Congress and White House sworn to protect America. We are being ruled by political traitors who work for wealthy bankers and financial interests whose primary goal has been more power for themselves and to divide and conquer the people.

So much for gaining citizenship the legal way...just get across the border and your in!!!...Rand Paul=Fail
07:36 PM on 03/19/2013
I don't get it. It's ok to let 13 million aliens into this country, because they say we need the work force to pay taxes to support the growing Government. Yet the same Governmnet supports abortion that has murdered 55 milliojn of our own babies that would have grown up to work and pay taxes. Explain the sense in that.

Either we all have to obey the rule of law or not.

This is like caving on the 2nd Amendment, or being a little bit pregnant.

Rand Paul just proved that nobody's perfect.

I rarely disagree with Senator Paul but on imigration, I do. Send the eleven million home and confiscate everything they have except their one change of clothing. Brand them on their forehead if necessary to make sure they don't invade again .

Most of the US population, the legal ones, want them gone. They shouldn't be allowed to keep the money and property they got while here sucking up on welfare and taking US citizen's jobs.

Rand said priority one is border security. Once that is in place work visas and entrepreneur visas get first consideration.

Nick, do you truly believe that if Rand Paul's idea that we allow 2 million illegals to come across our borders to become citizens that it will stop the illegals from coming across? Where are you getting that info? I mean, there are legal ways to come to this country no matter where you live, if you fall under those guidelines, but if many of the illegals here today could have done that don't you think they would have? We already have border security and it is definately NOT working. Also there is no money to watch every spot where someone can gain entry here or who stay passed the visas they may have gotten. Sorry, we have too many people out of work, too many who would rather pay someone less so they can make more. It is time to stop this and NOW.

We have many thousands of salaried men and women in uniform in Afghanistan.

Bring them home and put them at ports and space them out over the southern border.

We are wasting 200 million dollars a day in Afghanistan that is not giving us any return on our investment. When I say secure the border, I mean SECURE THE BORDER. Once that is done, then we can allow labor into the country.

A growing economy will need labor.

You are too willing to throw your hands up and say, "It can't be done." It can be done and it should be done. Once the border is secure then the visas can be administered.

Yes, I do believe Rand Paul is the best candidate for the job.

If people are willing to work for a lower wage that allows an American consumer to spend more money on a different task.

Enforcing current laws is a great start.

Rand Paul 2016.

I am a legal immigrant. I stood in line for 10 years. Then H1B, chest X-ray, 2 years of indentured servitude, green card, 5 more years of hard labor, background check, citizenship test, etc., etc. Time, money, etc., etc. I should have just walked in. DOH!

Makes about as much sense as letting base ball bat on board planes.

This has to be the most incompetent Administration in history.

I never thought it would be possible to make Bush jr. actually look competent in comparison.
