Debt reduction will have to be done eventually.  But given the slow recovery in employment and housing, now is not the time to do debt reduction.  It's time to adjust our trade policies to fair trade policies with nations that enforce the same first world standards on labor, product health and safety, environmental protection and the rule of law and to re impose tariffs on goods from nations that  Read More...

Hey, let's get something clear here: these imbiciles at the Washington Post aren't "Centrist" hacks, they are RIGHT-WINGNUT hacks.

I'm a centrist with liberal leanings. I know many other centrists with both liberal and conservative leaning. None of the centrists that I know believe that we need to cut Federal benefits and entitlements simply so that we can raise the tax rate back to what it NEEDS to be to pay down the debt of the two wars of choice and the economic meltdown that we inflicted upon ourselves.

We can just raise the tax rate, tie capital gains rates to the income rate, close the corporate loopholes, and implement powerful, immediate economic protective policies such as "we are going to tax the hell out of you if you send money overseas to avoid income taxes then try to repatriate it so you can spend it".

Being a "centrist" doesn't mean that you support the views of America's political parties; it means that you are a political moderate with views that fall in the generalized middle ground between progressive and conservative. When the GOP/TP are wingnut-conservatives and the Democrats are centrist-conservatives, the moderates centrists end up to the left of BOTH parties.

Raise the cap on SS to incomes up to $ 200, 000

No longer at risk
09:17 AM on 04/11/2013
That's way too logical an idea. GEEZE, ya think they every came up with that one? Sure they did, but it will never happen because of the lobbyists and wealthy folk who will not hear of it.

The Washington Post editorial board seems to have been drinking the right wing cool-aid. How can curtailing future increases in social security benefits be good for America? It certainly will not help the economy and the costs will be born by those least able to bear them. They must be really out of touch with the reality that the social security program has been the most effective initiative ever undertaken by the federal government in terms of its benefit for our people. Some how that positive result can be ignored in the interests of securing the ability of those at the top to accumulate immeasurable fortunes that will ensure their well being and those of their families for generations to come.

WAPO has been loving the Right Wing Koolaid for 50 years. They loved the Vietnam War, even in 1969, when things were really bad. The only reason that WAPO went against Nixon was because: 1) he wasn't conservative enough; and 2) Nixon was socially inept, and personally rude to owner Kay Graham.

The Main Scheme Media, including the WaPost, FOX, TIME, etc. has it's GOP-TP scheduled programing to push into the news propaganda network.

War! Fire! Fear! Be very afraid of scary simple words from older child in North Korea.
Quietly, without knowing or thinking, embrace financial invasion and attack by Congress and the White House via. purposefully complex 'new' austerity legislation in the homeland.

Look away, look away, look away and either way you pay, either way, either way, either way.

I was watching Hardball yesterday and Chris Matthews and one of his guests, some obscure reporter, where making fun of Bernie Sanders as being one of the usual suspects on the left who come out against cuts to Social Security. They actually thought it was funny and tried to claim that Obama has courage by attacking seniors, the disabled and Veterans like this.
I'm not sure he got them or saw them but I fired off a few tweets condemning him for laughing about the cuts and telling him I am basically an ex Hardball fan!
So boycott Hardball if you're a fan...

You should keep on watching Hardball and harassing Matthews. The man is a chameleon. If it was popular, he'd be a Nazi or a Stalinist. First he was pro-Iraq war, then he wasn't. He'll realize that all the blue haired ladies who watch him will turn on him and he'll change his mind once again.

First off i'm not a lady and second No not me.  I don't support people like him. It is hard to make comments to these pundits because they don't give their viewers the vehicle to do that very easily

Now the media for both sides have something to talk about. The budget designed to fail. Chain CPI is the ball the democrats can use to rally against ans show they are fighting for the elderly. But when Obamacare raided medicare they did not say a word. Obama raised taxes on the people making over 400,000 and republicans did it and said now reduce spending. So this budget wants to add more taxes and spend more then CPI and the tax increase will take in. Now Obama will play the evil rich people game and progressives can play the we are protecting the elderly. Republicans will fight another stimulus after the failure of the the last 2 stimulus. In the end nothing get done and the media will blame it on republicans. How long can you play the people for fools? Adding more to the debt while taking more from the old. Does anyone really believe this was designed to pass.

Here we have the shame of a nation which is cutting back on SS benefits as low as $660.00 a month and the "nation's newspaper" condoning it.

How low can "journalism" go?

Chained CPI explained:
You like chicken.  Chicken becomes too expensive for you to eat so you switch to cardboard and worms.  The price is less.  That's CPI
09:21 AM on 04/11/2013
You can't afford cat food with CPI...and if cat food becomes too expensive, you go for rat poison. that solves everything.

The liberal WAsh Post wants to see seniors money cut? I guess they will just go along with anything this president does. I suppose nbc is too. But any senator and rep from my state who votes for this is not going to get my vote or my family's vote.

Obama's proposal to "cut' SS benefits isn't going to happen because the conservatives aren't going to get down to the business of doing what they need to do, i.e. revising tax code loopholes created especially for the wealthy and large corporations that are evading taxes, albeit legally. In effect, Obama has thrown out the gauntlet to the conservatives, who simply don't get it.

I like some of what Obama does, but this Chained CPI SUCKS. Once you mention a terrible policy, it becomes valid for enactment in the future. I think that Obama is serious about this, if not now, but for the future.
08:34 AM on 04/11/2013
CPI is great, don't you see? First you substitute steak for chicken, and lower your cholesterol. Then you substitute your home for a tent under the bridge. Imagine how great that will be for the environment. After that you just go ahead and substitute medicine for prayer. Before long, retirees can just do without money all together, live off the land and such. It is just so beautiful...
