My 2 sons had tea parties with their sisters. My 2 daughters had mud fights with their brothers. All 4 had dolls and trucks, alternately watched Princess movies or racing movies, took turns driving the go cart, played dress up and did everything else together that kids do. They never seemed to have a problem with what they were doing being gender specific, they just enjoyed spending time together. As far as I was concerned if they were bonding and not fighting it was all good. That bond has carried over into their adulthood. They have grown into amazing adults and parents with children that are doing the same as they did when they were children.

My son is 9, and he shows all signs of being straight (staring at women in bikinis...etc) and his favorite movie is Tangled. He loves it, he loves her. He won't admit it to me, his mom, but I know he is enchanted with Rapunzel. He has seen that movie more times then I would care to admit! So what, he likes it, he identifies with something about it, why would I questions it?

Similar story with my 8-yr-old, but he loves the Tooth Fairy in 'Rise of the Guardians', as well as Merida from 'Brave'. He identifies with the characters being empathetic and still strong, something he struggles with in 2nd grade where many boys seem to want to hurt things to assert their power and dominance.

I hope he said "thank you" to the thoughtful woman who bought the DVD. She's the person that shone in that story.

question for the haters...as a grown up male am i allowed to cheer when Mariska Hargitay scores a win on SVU? or (insert 1000s of other female charators) because they are female>>>
(haruMPH!...not liking this show...it's got a girl on it)
or not laugh at a female comedian?
or is my girl not allowed to like mel gibson in the patriot because he's a male? (week example, but you should get the jist)

You can cheer for them if they have fake breasts, fake hair, and clothes/make-up that makes the heroine look like a hooker (or what some men think hookers look like). If they look like a real woman and you still cheer...then you're a real man.

When my kids were younger, and we had just moved to upstate, rural, Pennsylvania, my wife invited over the neighbor and her children for a playdate. Two girls, two boys, with the girls being 2-3 years older. While the grown-ups talked, the kids went back to my daughter's room to play. Short while later, the neighbor's boy emerges, asking his mother for a drink of water. "What're you guys doing back there," his mother asked. "We're playing with dolls," the young man replied. "Stephen!," the woman roared, "boys don't play with dolls!"

One minute later, right on cue, my son emerged, wearing high-heels, lipstick and a pink boa. The girls had given him the full treatment.

That was the last playdate, sadly. My son, for what it's worth, is now 18 and bound for college. He stands 6'2" and growing, fights MMA and is positively girl crazy.

I would be tempted to tell the guy to “F*** off”. Who is he to invade another person’s conversation?

I Love this story. Maybe the child just wanted to watch a good movie. What a blessed little boy to have a Dad like that. I let my children play with and watch whatever was right for their age. They are going to be who they are going to be. It is my job to help support and Love them, become independent human beings.

Reminds me of my grandma. She raised me. When I was a little boy I would always want the girls toy in my Happy Meal. They would always assume that I wanted the Hot Wheels of whatever but she would stand there and say "No, I told you he wants the BARBIE!" Gotta love those old ladies.
