You can only imagine what these sick, perverted, holy men of God got away with back in the day when the church held more power than king or government.

Say something in support of gay rights?? EXCOMMUNICATED. Abuse a child? Transfer to some other place.

I don't know how people can put money in their plates knowing that it will be spent to defend paedophiles. It is sickening.

YES! Exactly what I have been asking for decades. How can they look in the mirror?
04:56 PM on 05/07/2013
The answer is easy: DENIAL

We have all seen the balding man do a comb-over, fooling himself into thinking he still has his hair. Or an older woman who refuses to age gracefully. The mental/emotional blindess to reality is a way to protect ourselves from painful thoughts.

But this goes much farther for Catholics, as it is the result of mental & cultural conditioning. They cannot bring themselves to the realization that the Church/clergy would lie to them.

Never forget how this church enables their pedi-priests. Isolated incidence? I don't think so. It has been going on for far too long and is going on still today.

Why allow a child molester to continue to be a priest at all? Let him choose a cloistered monastery away from kids and stay there behind the walls.

Child molesters should be in jail not in a cloistered monastery. Monastic communities
aren't meant for criminals.

Fugee should have been defrocked and banned from anything resembling ministry anywhere. From my distant perspective it looks like these youth ministers knew and liked Fugee. We are learning, painfully slowly, about the modus operandi of many child and youth predators. Many are friendly and come to be revered by young people; the pedophile may even be charismatic.

Many, too, are patient, selecting and grooming potential victims over time. A youth minister may see only the charisma and attractiveness of the priest/predator and believe he is a blessing to the children.

Here is where leadership must make a decisive appearance. Bishop Myers had it in his power, in fact was required to remove this priest from ministry everywhere. He bears first and ultimate responsibility for seriously endangering children and youth. The attempt by diocesan PR folks to first claim Fugee's assignment was licit and then reverse the claim is strong evidence of complicity at the highest levels.

Myers must resign as diocesan bishop.

Yes - Myers must be removed.

Anytime I see, hear of or have to meet someone designated as a 'youth minister'....my eyebrows are raised. In many Protestant churches there are all sorts of creepy characters posing as youth ministers. It seems that they are all trained in 'charisma' and encouraging a cult-like loyalty. It does not take much imagination to see what road THAT can lead to.

For Catholics, the youth leader is now a growing fad in parishes. As an attempt to groom loyal youth/teen church members. Those can be dangerous words! If I believe in God, I do not need to be 'groomed'. The potential for abuse is great.

Fugee must be defrocked, as will all abusers. $20 says this is NOT the only child he has abused. And a man who is mentally ill (a child molester) has NO business acting as a counselor, administrator, or spiritual leader!

Thank you Star Ledger and all involved with the “intense scrutiny” needed to force the removal of Fr. Fugee. Once again all we hear and see from the RCC is the support of priests who have molested children. Defiance and silence from the Arch Bishops is not to be tolerated when it comes to the safety of our children. After countless arrests, scandal and a huge drop in membership it seems that the RCC is still not willing or able to understand the desire of the people to have their children safe. I'd like to hear more about where the police are in relationship to the terms of the agreement that was signed by Fugee and Newark Archdiocese.

If they had been friends for years they would have known about the lifetime ban for Fugee. They were actively ignoring it, thinking they knew better.

True. If there were no religion, this whole thing would not make any sense and might not happen. The only thing left on the table would be whether we owe anyone for what our capitalists have done here and there or if we will turn that large military loose some where. As long as things seemed to be going ok in the US, most people looked the other way on a lot of things. It is time to admit it and start voting. People do want to live in a good country right?

If the priest cannot be trusted to minister to children, why is he still a priest? The real scandal is this continual cover up! As long as the church is willing to keep these priests within their ranks, this issue will never be over. The Roman Church would rather keep an unqualified priest than give him the boot. The Roman Catholic Church is morally bankrupt! And the headline is misleading. "Resigned" just means he will be moved to some place else. He resigned from his duties, but not from the priesthood.

If the pastor and the couple who were youth group leaders were friends with Fugee, they knew of his history with molestation even if they were telling the truth about not knowing about the agreement with the court(and I don't believe that for one moment). The long history of protecting priests at the risk of children is well known and continues. The lip service paid by the powers that be is just that...marketing. Same old. Same old...criminal organization.

The priest that commits a crime is seldom sent to jail, but their bosses [Cardinals bishops]
they get promoted in their ranks.
Cardinal Law anyone? Mahony? Dolan? and you could say the majority of bishops are guilty of concealing errant priests and they look the other way hoping to get promoted.
I know this is red meat, but the best thing I ever did is when Left the church.
You find in a hurry that God is not catholic.

And Myers is a dark conservative who would be the first in his neighborhood to tell a politician that he can't receive HC unless he votes the church line on every item (which means contraception and abortion). Myers is what happens when only the most conservative are allowed to rise in the church. There is never a dissenting voice, so these guys would have you believe that they are as infallible as they try to convince us that the Pope is.
