Yeah, Bruins won 5-2 then Wednesday, 4-3 in OT.
Fans walked away in shame. Does that fan want to come to Boston with that sign? I'm sure someone can score him a Friday night ticket.

Boston Strong was NOT created for any Sports Team it was however a statement to Citizens, a City and the Survivors of the Marathon Attack PERIOD! Anyone that would have the audacity to Ridicule it or anything therein is beyond reproach. Making a mockery of the dead and injured at such a horrific situation cannot be fathomed by anyone with any sense of humanity. It would be like mocking or downplaying something like the 911 attack or World War I, It is Incomprehensible. I do hope that this man's insensitivity does not cause more sadness or pain to those already affected by the Marathon Tragedy.

I am a Yankee fan and New Yorker that has been to Fenway over 20 times.I have had mothers with their children cursing at me calling me a f**t (even though I was with my wife) I have had beer and food thrown at me and now they are mad over a sign.

Boston players saying vile things about another players wife, and fans cheering it on......... real classy.

Speaking of classy, the actions of a couple of misguided pin he ads is not reflective of the rest of a city's population any more than a case of child abduction and rape in your town is a reflection on you.

uh-oh.... looks like the Leafs have poked the bear! Go Bruins!
04:34 AM on 05/08/2013
So what they started it by sucker punching a Leafs fan on Saturday after they lost 4-2, he was knocked out cold and needed staples in the back of his head. This happened right in TD Gardens, he was even with 5 other friends, just happened so fast nobody saw it or knows who did it. It was being reported by the media and is on the Internet. Boston fans are known to be unruly, violent, rude, aggressive...only second to Philly fans.

Well, I can't really compare because I don't know fans of other hockey teams, but I am sure that we have our share of obnoxious fans.  I tend to avoid saying things like "all xyz fans are..."  As to the Leafs winning, we'll just have to see about that, LOL!

Apologies to Boston from a western Canadian for the tasteless display in Toronto.

My suspicion is that it was not ill intentioned . . . just vacuously ignorant.

Just some unthinking, rabid Leafs fan who tried to pump up the locals . . . with a clueless disregard for the ramifications of what he was saying.
07:23 PM on 05/07/2013
Maybe, but I don't understand how or why he would put a ribbon on the sign without understanding what it meant. Ribbons aren't usually put on sports signs except when it is in reference to a tragedy. I'm a little doubtful that it was sheer ignorance that led to that sign. I hope you're right though, and if so I hope the fan will apologize. I don't blame all the fans (or Canadians) for the sign, though. It was just one guy, and there are id.iots everywhere.

You know what? I didn't even notice the ribbon, just looked at the two words. I was hoping I was right too.

I'm running out of defenses for this clown . . . can he really have thought it was "clever?"

At the last Olympics in Vancouver, Canada beat the US in Womens Hockey for the Gold Medal. When the US girls were being presented with Silver, their less than happy faces lit up when the chant USAUSAUSAUSAUSA reverberated around the arena from the overwhemlingly Canadian crowd. The US girls smiled, beamed and waived to the crowd who knew a helluva good hockey team when they saw it. Dunno if NBC carried that, they missed a lot in their coverage.

I have heard fans chant, seen them hold signs and tweet much worse than this. Real personal stuff. It's part of the sports psyche. What happened was terrible, but this fan's sign is not unusual.
06:52 PM on 05/07/2013
Weird things happen at international sporting events. The Canadian flag was paraded upside down during the pre-game military particiaption during the 1st World Series Game in Alanta years ago, (Jays eventually won the World Series anyway) much to the horror of the USMC when it was pointed out. And for some reason a few years ago the Canadian Anthem was booed in many US sports arenas to the point that Habs fans booed the US Anthem. The then Governor of New York was outraged until was was noted the Montreal chorus was in retaliation to similar less than classy outbreaks in New York State. It took Jean (alias God) Beliveau to admonish that this must stop, for it was not the way things are done in Canada. And it did, though US cities carried on.
07:01 PM on 05/07/2013
Yes and Canadians have booed the American National Anthem, too, for no reason so it goes both ways.
