These are the same people the Obama administration says don't have the ability to use chemical weapons. Are you serious?
01:51 PM on 05/14/2013
these "arab springers" are the people that Obama says we should support to the tune of millions of dollars in aide and arms?! Even in best of economic times, which we are not in, why send money to radical Islamists and Al Qaeda elements? Why does Obama seem to care more about radical Moslems than our own people?

You seem to be confused or are a shill for Israel and are deliberately trying to confuse others!  The Arab Spring is a process which varies according to country. People in Egypt and Tunisia are demanding freedom, just like everywhere else, but the Islamists are the ones with the strong organizations after decades of dictatorships. So they won the initial elections, but we can see a democratic opposition fighting back HARD in both countries!  In Syria, the Israel lobby and its looney rightwing sycophants, who "support" Israel from an End-Of-Days scenario, are pushing Obama to support the equally looeny Islamists, based on the "biblical" axiom that the "enemy of my enemy is my friend"!!  For people who want to fight for a balanced and fair US foreign policy, compatible with US ideals of democracy, there is only one alternative, regardless of the party in power: fight against the Israel lobby and its multiple tentacles in the US govt and private sector!

I don't like Israel or Obama's Moslem radical friends in the so-called "arab spring". We have no business getting involved in their disputes. We should bring our troops home and let them sort each other out. We shouldn't be funding Al Qaeda or Isreal. Let countries fend for themselves unless it is in a direct national interest to do so. Or there is a Congressional, official declaration of war. Use our military to defend our borders instead.

Why don't you call the Republicans, who want to help these miscreants MORE than even Obama's willing to.
02:15 PM on 05/16/2013
because one could expect Republicans, like McCain, to want more wars but Obama was about "change", or so we thought.
01:45 PM on 05/14/2013
Whatever the outcome of this chaos, it's going to take quite a long time to sort out the mess in Syria.

And these are the people we in the US are going to help in this war? The US needs to stay away. Neither side is a 'friend' the are all foes to us.
06:21 PM on 05/14/2013
There's a wonderful economy with these "friends". They can function as foes as well. As in the movies, you don't need to hire a lot of extras, just change the camera angle.

And we're supposed to support these barbarians?

No.

No US military involvement. No arming these savages. No intel. Nothing.

Only humanitarian aid to refugees in Turkey and Jordan.

Yes as in all cases it is the innocent civilians that get caught up in power struggles and chaos.

The origin of this savage act is in Arab / Islam history: Mohamed's uncle Hamza ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib was killed in the battle of Uhud, Hind, the wife of Abu Sufyan and the mother of Muawiya (5th Caliph), cut open Hamza's abdomen, plucked out his liver, and chewed it up.

In 67 dead Israel POW were found with their hands tied behind their backs and their penis's in their mouths - so much for the Syrian army. In 73 the POW's were tortured to the ultimate degree. They tortured very simple truck drivers and the like - it could not have been anything but for fun.
They were in Egypt as well and were also shot but nothing nothing like the Syrians.

Oh sorry - us Israelis are meant to be the monsters.

I'm still waiting for the day when 'Allah Akbar' is being shouted and there's not a pool of blood on the street or decapitated victims in the proximity.
10:46 AM on 05/14/2013
Blood is spilled in the name of Christ as well. Just take a look at Mexico and the violence there. Radicalism is indifferent to religion, it's humanity that has a bloodlust.
11:55 AM on 05/14/2013
Yeah but the people arent running around Mexico killing each other and then screaming "God is great".

Thats fkn extreme.
02:30 PM on 05/14/2013
The violence in Mexico? In the name of Christ? You must be smoking the real reason there is violence there....

Certainly no worse than what happened at My Lai, and US politicians, Jimmy Cater included, couldn't have been louder in their support for Lt Calley. Maybe next time we are faced with choosing which side to support in a war, we will choose to simply not support the war at all.......

I don’t remember anyone supporting William Calley. People couldn’t get far enough away from him. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and hard labor at Fort Leavenworth. Does that sound as if anyone gave him loud support?

You may not remember but his support was as strong as the outrage.  He served 3.5 yrs under house arrest and none at hard labor.  I will let  you google Carted and Calley,  really, really disgusting.........

Maybe we can just curl up in the fetal position, whimpering, rocking back and forth in our tie-dyed shirts and sandals and let the Russians and Chinese dictate the outcome.

From the Washington perspective:
Al Qaeda in Syria = angel
Al Qaeda in Afghanistan = satan
