He killed himself over that post??? It was mildly sarcastic at worst... It's stupid to kill yourself over an internet post, let alone one that is so tame.

although the article makes no mention of why he had a warrant for his arrest it appears, after watching the video, that it was for marijuana possession. this just makes the whole story even sadder when you consider the abundance of violent crimes in this country yet they waste their time bullying some kid with weed.

this is what happens in small towns that have nothing else to do, they go after the only criminal, they can find

The sheriff's office should be brought up on ethics charges for doing such unethical behaviour online. If they know someone has problems especially, they shouldn't have done that. People just expect more professionalism from law enforcement agencies.

So true, and what ever happened to Innocent until proven guilty in a court of Law?

What ever happened to the police carrying out the process of serving a warrant on a person, putting them in a police car, and taking them in for booking? Decidedly more traumatic for the suspect than just turning himself in after some "new school" police work using social media? Newspapers both in print and online print the names of people arrested for a variety of charges ... well before a determination of guilt or innocence is made in court. So it's not like he's the first person to have his name in the media for an arrest warrant. Sad as hell, but why didn't his family take him into the police station and show him support through that process?

Look, the sad fact is: This poor man took his own life.

While I have no doubt the messages added to his stress, I doubt that was the main reason he did it.
04:59 PM on 06/26/2013
Well Steph, since time cant be reversed to find out if that posting had not been put up if he would have or not committes suicide, we can only say.

The law is guilty of instigating his suicide.
06:09 PM on 06/26/2013
I don't the law had anything to do with it. Obviously this kid had previous problems, since the other 900 million Facebook users don't kill themselves over lousy posts.

Several days lateer? So "we can only say" and the law is automatically guilty?
Not so much. Sadly, this poor man killed himself.

Idaho law enforcement (as well as those in Spokane, WA) are simply out of control. There have been way too many reports of those who are acting more like bullies than peace keepers and/or public servants. I don't lump all of them in one basket (there are definitely really good ones around); but there is a definite problem that is more than just an exception; and it needs to be addressed....but if history is any example, it likely will not be.

Thank you Lathah County Sheriffs for protecting us from a 19 yo depressed troubled youth that had done no harm to anyone but himself with a push from the starmen.
You could bully this guy but even with a warrants, could drive to his home and place him in custody which would have saved his life. And you guys wonder why the average citizen has so little respect for the lackeys of the power structure.

Stop caring about other peoples' opinions if your survival depends on it. Is it REALLY that difficult to keep things in perspective?

A young person with depression lacked perspective? Why, he should have pulled himself up by his boot straps and just refused to be depressed! How shocking. You do know depression is more difficult to treat in adolescents?

Let's see how many people will post their opinion on how they don't feel sorry for someone. It seems like whenever there is a tragedy (and YES someone killing themselves is a tragedy) there are always people trying to justify reasons NOT to feel sorry for someone. It's like as society in general people love to tell other people if you show feelings of sorrow you are weak. The general population of America doesn't want to know that it takes a village to raise a child. The surroundings and environment play a more important part in life than one likes to admit.

Conservatives don't value community. Raw individualism and bootstrap pullin(and daddy's money).

If you truly value community then you don't work to build an aristocracy and an underclass of serfs to serve them.

@Nightmelody, very well said. I await the day more people think like you and see the big picture.

Yes, we get it, depression means nothing to you, you are completely uneducated on the matter.
02:48 PM on 06/26/2013
Did he not have a warrant out for his arrest? Was he not wanted by the police? Is it bullying for the police to pursue someone with a warrant out for their arrest?

Having the police after is supposed to be stressful. You are on the run, not on vacation. You should be constantly worried, looking over your shoulder.

I hate to sound cold and unsympathetic, but if he could not handle that stress and decided to end his own life, then so be it.

No, I agree with this, I don't have a problem with the picture being posted or the comments. The only problem I have is that the police seemed to know where he was and were too lazy to go get him,

Wrong. He's a KID, with obvious problems. Kids don't raise themselves. You have no idea what his life situation was to be making comments like that.
07:48 PM on 06/26/2013
He's 19 which makes him an adult. It means he is held to the same standards as any adult. He commits a crime, he gets punished.

Feeling sorry for him is one thing, but blaming the police for pursuing someone with an open warrant out for their arrest is just plain wrong

The Latah County Sheriff's Office in Idaho posted a "most wanted" on a man who lived in Washington... I think Mr. Cain had much bigger life issues. My condolences to the family.
