Guns determine who's left. Not who's right.
02:11 PM on 07/16/2013
So. What happens now?

Will school security be enhanced? Maybe some heavier doors with bigger locks? Cameras? Anything along those lines? Nope!

Is anyone outraged about Lanza gaining access to his mother's guns? That is to say, is anyone pushing for laws that pertain to making gun owners secure their guns even more? Nope!

Has the school board adopted any new security protocol, as far as screening visitors or granting access cards or anything like that? Nope!

Show me that you're really concerned about student safety before you ask me to be concerned about it as well. Until then, it's just another day in America.

The worst one I've heard is that the children of that tragedy were never there and that it was a hoax, just walk away and shake your head, if the people saying that didn't have some cash in their pockets we'd give them a wide berth under a bridge somewhere.

Yes, but very few believe that one. This is like a Birther or Muslim conspiracy theory where the nuts jump on because they have no critical thinking skills.

No footage of the assumed 1200 combined children and parents, that whole place should have looked like chaos.

Anyone else notice that the other schools at Newtown did have armed police officers in them.
The only school that didn't have a police officer was the elementary school.
Which "gun free school" did Lanza choose to go to? One with a police officer ? or the only one around that did not have a police officer?
And please --- please ---- pay attention to the last statement in the article:

"Newtown wants to expand its school resource officers, but doesn't have enough manpower to put one in each school. "It's very political," Penna said. "It's costly, they have to work out all the financial issues." ".

And you lefties all said that the NRA was nuts for wanting police in every school.

I live in the most Republican state in the U.S. and no Republican here wants guns in the schools either. Get off your "leftie" soapbox because this is not a "left" or "right" issue, as much as people like YOU would like it to be. Not all Republicans are "gun lovers" and not all Democrats are anti guns. As a matter of fact, my whole family are Democrats and we all have guns behind every door in our house. So, nice try with your political propaganda, but nobody is falling for it.

I am sure Lanza had no idea whether the school had an "armed guard."

Funny, I guess all the insurance companies who are denying coverage for school districts with armed personal are raving commie leftists.

Since the people who use the gun nuts nuttery want women to look at abortion photos and ultrasounds before getting an abortion, wouldn't it be fair to make anyone who wants to buy an assault rifle and large capacity clips to look at the autopsy photos from this completely preventable tragedy?

Still cannot read anything about this tragedy without shedding a tear. I think about those children and how they are never going to get to live out their dreams and how their parents have been robbed of watching that happen. I also can't help but think of my two young boys and how I incredibly blessed I am.
01:36 PM on 07/16/2013
We should not be so quick to hurl angry remarks to people that say it didn't happen. I guess I'm a bleeding heart, but when I see that I feel so sorry for their pain. Because I know they are so horrified at this tragedy that they refuse to accept it in their mind. They have to go to a make believe place where this isn't real, they have to cling to anything at all that will make this go away because it's too awful to look at. I wish I could believe that it didn't happen, I really want that to be true. If I let myself get anywhere close to imagining the parent's pain, I feel like screaming inside.

Gun advocates keep telling us nothing can be done to curb gun violence. Or laws on the books don't work.

I guess that means that we shouldn't try.

Oh wait. The negative people have made those claims about most every piece of worthwhile legislation to ever be passed in Congress or the states. It won't work is their favorite mantra. Of course laws won't work without law enforcement. Some sheriff's are already saying they won't enforce new gun laws. Well they guarantee they won't work because they don't enforce the law.

One hundred years ago there were no worker protections, no voting for women or blacks, no protections for the environment or consumer. I guess if we listened to the nay sayers nothing in this country would change for the better.

It's always said you are part of the problem or the solution. Conservatives and the NRA are part of the problem.

Honestly, usually the police are there to clean up the mess afterward. It's rare that they actually get to protect anyone. That's not their fault--its just the nature of gun violence.
01:39 PM on 07/16/2013
No, its the nature of their job. They are there to protect, they're there to investigate when a law is broken. That is the duty of the police, nothing more.

My condolences to the families who lost their children, an unimagineable tragedy. I wish we could learn more about this event. I would love to see a video of what's his name walking into the school, because the school had video cameras but no videos have been released, I'd like to know who the three guys were running into the woods right after the shooting, I'd like to know why the court has found it appropriate to permanently seal the case files on this, the medical examination, the autopsy reports - I wish this entire event were a lot more transparent... because lots of people are asking questions, and many people are drawing extreme conclusions based on those questions....

The reason none of that footage, nor the photos taken of the aftermath, have been released has little to do with the families involved, but that to do so would spell the immediate end of assault weapons and the NRA in this country.

And that proves what? He "supposedly" got the guns from his mother who got them legally... so what's to stop this from happening again? Nothing. And it will. I agree with Alex Todorovic7 100% there has been absolutely nothing but confusion on the "official" count of the events of this... and it raises more questions as to why they are going to tear down the school and build a new one... and now they have a new law to never release any details on these events in the future further giving them more room to say whatever they want. They could have said 100 kids died and we'd just have to take their word for it...
