What a sad and frustrating situation over there. I am sure someone trying to save a few bucks led to this.

I think I would choose starving over being poisoned at school. My goodness am I so thankful every day that I was born in the States. I just wish we could get our own country in order so we could provide aid to other countries but that makes too much sense so it will never happen
01:13 PM on 07/17/2013
What? We have been providing aid to many countries for years at the expense of our own.

I apologize, I realize I didn't make my point very well so let me rephrase. If our country was in order we could properly provide aid to other countries with the access we do not need or use. But that makes too much sense so it won't happen.

Why are people cracking jokes about this?
This is sad! People must get off on being funny in the mist of tragedy.
Do you know what the word KARMA means?

And this is shocking???

India is a cesspool of disease and filth and now these poor kids (and their families) have paid a price.

Just watched an episode of HBO's "Vice" where they covered India and all the poverty....it is absolutely horrific to see how many of them 90% live.

That is true. I believe Patrick Swayze said that he went there once for work and couldn't believe how ill he became from intestinal parasites.

Sad this is something that could be prevented, These were just kids wanting to learn and grow up.. Just think if this was one of your kids! Would you still be joking about it?
09:20 AM on 07/17/2013
I'd still be joking about it if it was one of your kids. Does that count?

Phosphorous? We used that chemical in bombs and grenades when I was in the Army
(White Phosphorous) it will burn the skin off your body where ever it touches.
Preserving food what does it do burn up the bugs?
Poor kids. Stupidity has no bounds

Probably food grown from seed from Monsanto's GMO stocks. Monsanto is ALLLLL over India. People are getting sick and animals are dying over there.

The only food I buy is from Canada or the United states too much is grown in human waste and bad chemicals in other country's.

It is imperative that all school lunches and even food eaten at home be a product of USA!!!!! We have the cleanest and safest food in the world here in our country, thanks to the efforts of the USDA federal food inspection service!!! Are they perfect??? No!!! But, they are still better than any other inspection service in the world!! Politicians right now are looking at ways to "gut" the inspection service (they are already short-handed)which would endanger our food supply!! Please contact local, state, and federal politicians in your area and tell them to leave the food inspection service alone!!!

I guess you missed the part where it said they found traces of phosphorous which is used as a preservative for wheat and rice. Now I know we don't grow rice here but we sure grow a lot of wheat, our wheat is so adulterated and I am sure phosphorous is being used as well that wheat could very well be used as a biological weapon in this country. Check out the food you eat, even twiizzlers has wheat in it. And by the way phosphorous is permitted by the USDA as is many poisons in our food that in a lot of countries is not permitted.

We need to get the corporate money out of our government!

I hate to disagree with you but we are one of the biggest producers of RICE.

Look at the lable, much of the food you think is made and or grown here is not. By the way, with the cuts in government funding to the FDA and USDA, our food supply is at risk as well.

I'm shocked and saddened by all the comments making jokes here. Are Americans taught to be so self-centered that it's funny to us to hear about the deaths of non-American children? If this happened in the US, it would be the headline at HP and people would be outraged.

I agree. Most of the comments you wrote of probably come from children who's parents have not taught them to be respectful of others.

It really upsets me the way many American kids were brought up, or should I say, were not brought up. I was very strict with my kids about the Golden Rule when they were little. It is such a simple, simple thing that makes so much sense. It really did work with them and they both have grown up to be responsible, caring adults.

unfortunately if a bunch of children died in the US the only reason a left wing publication would report it is if someone used a gun, if something happens in the US, unless it supports left wing agendas it does not get reported, but it is a shame these children died but you are looking at the future of the US, as long as our government keeps intruding on private business and make food companies cut corners to make a profit things like this will happen here, if you do not believe that just go back in time and look at all the recalls of tainted food in just the past couple of years

Not only does phosphorous preserve rice and wheat, but it lets you eat in the dark.

I got food poisoning while working in India and thought I was going to die. Luckily, my body responded to treatment.

This is a real happening in India. I hope I do not read that more children have succumbed to this preventable disaster.

Thank God you are okay.
