A bill signed into law, thousands support it, but one person, dies under the precept of that law, the people feel the jury is wrong and a minority is trying to force changes, get real folks

GZ followed an unarmed BLACK teenager with skittles and an ICED TEA, who had no criminal record, was an honor student and had a scholarship to college... GZ just saw a black kid in a hoodie and racially profiled him. He then proceeded to follow this kid in the dark, when told not to..he claimed he was in fear yet still got out of his car with his gun at his side..you see. b/c he got an A in that class he took in which he learned all about "Stand Your Ground" which he lied to the American People about on the Sean Hannity show (that's besides the point).... approached the kid, started a confrontation and then because Trayvon defended himself (What..he didn't have a right to? only GZ did) GZ pulled out his gun and didn't shoot him in the shoulder or arm..but straight in the heart. So GZ starts this whole entire altercation; then kills the person and claims self-defense.

What would have been a fist fight and broken nose ended up killing a someone. This law is DANGEROUS and enables vigilantism at its worst; it will continue to be abused but this could have been predicted given the astounding gun deaths/violence in this country..most of all industrialized nations with 8 kids a day getting killed .

Abuse of this law, heck yes, already happens, ex girlfriend shoots boy friends son and claims fear,,, thing is, all laws are subject to abuse,,, I give you that,,,, now give me on the TA/GZ,,,,, their jury found it justified under the law and said so,, so drop your protest....
03:29 PM on 07/18/2013
He wasn't an honor student. He was suspended from school three times. He had nude pictures of under age teen agers on his cell phone. He also liked to fight, and smoke mariuana. I do admit this is a tradgedy for Trayvons parents. George defended his life or he would more than likely be the dead man.
04:33 AM on 07/18/2013
Since 2005 when this law was put into effect, there has been a 200% increase in homicides where people have tried to use this Stand Your Ground, self-defense bullshit.
In theory, it's not a bad law BUT coupled with lax gun laws in this embarassing state, it becomes volatile and fatal.

I agree with you 1000%,,, to many people seek to abuse it as an easy way out of something, and like Zimmerman, I think they should each be prosecuted under the law,,, facts will either show it was justified under the law or not,,,,"hey, we broke up I the your fmil members" ooops your brother just showed up, BANG!! T bad for you I was afraid,,,,",".
That type is BS, now walking down some road," hey I m gong to kick/kill you for being round here". ,,, by all means they get what they deserve,,,
But yes, to many chances of abuse and needs over site other than just taking someone word,,,
12:06 AM on 07/18/2013
So they think a small group of paid protestors demanding something is how State laws are to be changed?
12:05 AM on 07/18/2013
I wonder if, had Zimmerman - the man with the gun - been killed by Martin, the "stand your ground" law could have been utilized by Martin's defense team.
08:40 AM on 07/18/2013
TM was killed by a person with no common sense. not having any common sense is not against the law, but what if you start killing people without common sense?
03:32 PM on 07/18/2013
Absolutely. Had George been killed by Trayvon. Trayvon would be a free man. What's so sad that had Trayvon killed George it would never have made national news or gone to court. Now remember one or two more head plants into the concrete and Geaorge would have been trhew dead man.

Now class, before we get our collective panties so wadded up we'll never get them out of our butts, you need to understand the govenor just can't repeal a law at will. It has to be voted on by the state legislature and if it passes then the govenor can sign it or veto it. Chill out children.

I've never been in a class with collective panties. How dare you? That would most likely result in "class" warfare Leave the American peoples panties out of this. I'm also wondering, was your statement directed at women since you use the term panties and could you maybe be trying to start a war on women as well? Are you saying that Rick Perry wears panties that do not wad or that he does not wear panties at all? Chill out, Aevf.

Nope...a decent governor standing up for peoples rights to defend themselves against those that would do them harm. Says a lot about you though that you would have a problem with such a basic human right as defending yourself!

In theory, it's not a bad law but mix it up with our lax gun laws and anyone having a bad day... and we have more homicides than we can handle. They need to figure out this mess with SYG and gun laws b/c as it is right now, this can happen to anyone. 200% increase in "self defense" homicides since 2005.

Look at where the homicides are being committed and you will find 90% of them are holding a gun illegally. They obtained a gun from the street. There are no laws to stop this. you complain that there is a 200% increase in SYG homicides but you fail to mention that 61% of gun deaths are suicide .
You need to check your stats on stand your ground . Most homicides are street shootings, drive by shootings , gang shootings. They already have the laws to deal with this. They only need the police to go into these areas and clean up the mess.

I learn something new here everyday.

Yesterday I learned that;

The founders' intention of the 2nd amendment was "so that we beat other people in war".
02:21 AM on 07/18/2013
And so you can defend yourself against an unjust government like the Obama regime.

It does not matter where you are from if you are a convicted felon you should not be able to run for a political office. There is no difference in Florida or Chicago, GOP or Democrat. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you do not speak for me.
