Can someone clear my confusion, please ...
I fully realize that William is a Prince in his own right. However, if William is the Duke of Cambridge (and his wife, the Duchess), why then will the [almost born] royal baby be the Prince or Princess of Cambridge? Wouldn't that -in Cambridge only- make the baby out rank/title his own father, the Duke?

"the children of any Sovereign of these Realms and the children of the sons of any such Sovereign (as per the above Letters Patent of 1864) and the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales (a modification of the Letters Patent of 1898) shall have and at all times hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of Royal Highness with their titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their respective Christian names or with their other titles of honour". It was also decreed in these letters that "grandchildren of the sons of any such Sovereign in the direct male line ... shall have and enjoy in all occasions the style and title enjoyed by the children of Dukes of these Our Realms" (i.e., Lord or Lady before their Christian name)."

No one cares anymore, they are just normal people like all of us. Except they of course have the luxury of sitting on their arses and get paid by the working class folk. Meanwhile austerity cuts the middle class while they reap increases, how long will brits put up with it is only a matter of time. The days of Royals are over and in a few years the UK will have a Islamic elected government..

Actually, the royal family is responsible for much more tourist dollars being brought into the UK than they get paid.

Wow ok, never knew that everybody I know that's been to the UK did not go there for the Royal Family. You have some statistics proofing your claim there?
12:30 PM on 07/20/2013
Dunno what fox news tells you, but the muslim population in the UK is still tiny and the royal family generates sooo much money for our economy and even though you won't believe me they do work extremely hard (otherwise approval goes down and they won't exist) and it's good charitable and cultural work that they do which is nice as our politician are less and less concerned with such things. I personally know people who owe their successful careers to a charity set up by the royals in deprived schools.

The world really, really needs an end to limitless reigns. If England insists on keeping an archaic form of government, at least there should be a ruler who is not an ancient bobble-head. Others have abdicated quite graciously, since there comes a time when steadfast becomes just stubborn.

Hey, Queen Elizabeth signed documents to make gay marriage legal in the UK yesterday or today....not bad for an old bobblehead.
10:16 AM on 07/19/2013
True, gerorem. There comes a time when steadfast becomes just stubborn -- which is why you should quite graciously abdicate from posting on blogs. You're simply too old of a bobble-head to serve any function or do any good here. Now git!

Actually, the kid will be nowhere, as the Republic will be proclaimed in the first year of the reign of Charles III.

He wouldn't necessarily be Charles III. The Monarch can choose whatever they like for their regnal name. He's suggested in the past that he might choose to use one of his other names, which would make him Philip II, George VII, or Arthur.

It's not unprecedented. Queen Victoria's name was actually Alexandrina Victoria, King Edward VII was actually named Albert Edward, and King George VI was actually Albert Frederick Arthur George.

Seriously, it's time.

It's always the last year of the reign of odd-numbered Charleses that lead to a republic.
