Ariel has very little chance of survival in prison. GZ would've had a better chance.

Yeah I get that, but if I were those women, I'd rather testify and give him what he deserves than not testify. Besides, there's also power in having your day in court.

it wasn't about him. the deal was made to spare the victims the pain of having to testify
01:35 AM on 07/27/2013
Most lawyers are useless. Give him the chair or release him to the public for true justice.
01:29 AM on 07/27/2013
This is like are country now they have to pay for him to live not very bright. Should have lied to him like he did to those poor girls

Wait until the ACLU cites the 8th Amendment conerning Cruel and Unusual Punishment. Then we will start the whole process over again.

Call it life without the possibility of porale or clemency. Stop feeding the ACLU steak!

The Carnality of his crimes engenders in most of us, a thirst for Vengeance - far more than Justice provides for. We'll just have to be satisfied, that he will never get out alive. In fact, he probably won't live very long - especially if he's in Population. Best now to just forget about him, so others are not inspired to Copycat his actions.

Kill this animal! He doesn't deserve to live for what he did to these women. He has permanently ruined their lives. Do you think if he got out he wouldn't do this again?
So now we have to spend all this tax money to keep him alive until he dies naturally?

So do you think the victims should have been put through a trial with lots of media coverage?

Once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

I don't like that any more than you do, but I think justice takes a huge hit every time a deal is made. Plus, there are psychological benefits to confronting your abuser and seeing the system actually work. There isn't any closure or healing from deleting charges and giving the guy a break. Victims need the safety that comes with seeing justice done.

How about ten years of absolute abuse in prison like the abuse he gave. Then give him something so he can kill himself and the good people of Ohio can stop paying for his incarceration?

Eighth Amendment.

That said, if he took himself out, I'd be down with that.

Good.

In Canada, 580 Native women and girls are missing and everyone wants an investigation started, everyone except Stephen Harper. Yep, the Prime Minister. He refuses to look into it.
So what do you suppose he is hiding?

This hasn't found its way into the news here in the U.S., to my knowledge. Sounds like someone is abducting females into a Sexual Slavery situation. Perhaps the authorities don't even have any solid Leads, which embarrasses them greatly. I just HOPE that the Police are indeed looking into it, with all the muscle they've got......and the PM just doesn't want to make any brave talk. We've had mass murderers go undetected here in the U.S. for many years, like Juan Corona....MANY SCORES of Mexican laborers were worked, then murdered and buried on his farm, and no one had a Clue for many years.

It hasn't made it's way into the media there because it doesn't make a good sensational story the way that a single serial killer does. It's not one person or gang selling them into slavery or anything like that. It's a social structure wherein native women are systematically more likely than anyone else to be in vulnerable situations where they are killed or go missing. Their deaths are then less vigourously investigated because there is a belief that the fact that they were in those vulnerable positions in the first place makes their lives somehow less valuable.

The fact that the blame lies at least a bit with our society as a whole because of the way it consistently casts these woman aside into the margins makes it more comfortable to just sweep it under the rug and instead focus on the likes of Mr. Castro.

Incidentally, if either of you are interested, there is a trial occurring soon in Winnipeg for a Mr. Shawn Cameron Lamb who is alleged to be responsible for at least a few of those 560. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Preliminary-hearings-bypassed-in-alleged-serial-killer-cases-216980231.html

Only an extra thousand! Seriously folks, he could be out in 500 post mortem for good behavior. And it seems likely to me that he will have accumulated 500 years of no infractions by then. How about life plus an eon?
