Frankly, it seems to me less like a freak accident, and more like what I would expect from somebody oblivious enough to drive and use their phone. I can hardly count the number of times I've nearly been sideswiped by people trying to merge into me while talking on their phone. All the worse that it was a "professional" driving a bus.

But, yes, it's tragic.

Accountability is what is important. Finding responsible people to work is the challenge. Especially when stuff like this happens. Cell phones should be banned for bus drivers.

Another "accident" causes the death of a baby. Seems like the children are taking the worst of the irresponsibles and abusers.

I believe it's illegal for ALL drivers in NJ and NY to use their phones while operating a vehicle, as the article alludes when listing the charges against him.

Just read that since Reagan deregulated the trucking industry's which crushed those unions too and pay dropped so much the turn over rate is about 100% a year with drivers. So you don't have really experienced ones anymore who have proven themselves and you get a lot of newbies. Buses aren't so different except for the big city companys with high pay.

Why do people still think their damn phone call is more important than concentrating on their driving? How many more have to be injured or die before people get the hint? I have a pic of a Boulder County Sheriff's officer yacking away on his cell phone while driving through town. Is it really too difficult to pull your car over to have your conversation, or just pure laziness?

I pulled off a highway to use my cell phone and a highway bull stopped and wanted to know what I was up to; not whether or not I was having mechanical failure or a medical problem. It was what was I up to as he scoped out the contents of my delivery vehicle and my driver's license. This was after I told him I stopped to use my cell phone.

I do the same thing, but have never had an officer pull in behind me. It's really pathetic that they are suspicious and assume everyone is breaking the law! It's no wonder that so many people hate the police!

This is a widespread problem in New York, and probably in other places. Lots of people--American and foreign who operate buses, cabs and trains talk on their cell phones ALOT. They think they can multi-task but obviously they can't. Focus on WORK and set the freakin' phone aside for a while. It's a shame that their egos and inability to stop yapping prevent them from having respect for their passengers and the public.

I'm sure that was a very important call. Throw this guy 'under the bus'!

Issued a summons?? An arrest warrant should be issued and acted on before this guy vanishes. A crash caused by someone on the phone - talk or text either one- is no accident any more than drunk driving crashes are accidents. You're using the phone when you crash? It's Your Fault.
