Let me add to my last comment that" I hope that Mom is getting the therapy that she should have gotten then". I hope that Mom now has the courage and backbone that she should have had then.

They did the best thing for Jen when they placed her for adoption. I do not know or care to speculate exactly what their reasons were. They did what they thought was best. Jen was fortunate to be raised by an adoptive family that loved her and gave her every opportunity to succeed.

Forgive dad yes, but seeing how great sister turned out should make her rethink her troubles growing up and realy strive to be a better person.

I'm so happy that there was a couple out there who loved this woman and gave her a good life....I can't imagine parents just getting rid of their own child because of a "defect". How disgusting are they?

"didn't you know your mother was pregnant?" What 4 or 5 year old realizes what a pregnancy is.? I don't doubt she just didn't realize what was happening and the parents kept this from a child who must have already been in training.

Did they decide to give the baby up for adoption before or after they found out she had no legs?

We are taught to believe in equality, but clearly, "God" does not!

So, my dad said, 'Well, we'll give her up for adoption. I think that's what's best.' He didn't look back," Moceanu says.

This man is an ignorant ass. Then they try to justify it by saying it was the best thing. Well I agree it was the best thing for that child, it is so much better than being raised by an ignorant, selfish man like him.
02:37 PM on 08/13/2013
did you know the man personally? if your answer is no, how can you even begin to justify judging him? where you there? do you know anymore about this situation than what you just read? again, if the answer is no how dare you feel you can judge.

judging someone you don't know, based on something you know nothing about makes YOU the ignorant ass. i think if you want to change the world you should start with the "person" in the mirror.
06:10 PM on 08/13/2013
It's not necessary to know them personally. They threw away a gift, and that can only be called ignorance...or maybe blindness. I have a special needs child, and would have it no other way. Pretty much 100% of parents with special needs children, if given the chance for a do-over, would not trade their child for anything in the world...including what you would call a "normal" one. Funny how it works, but it's true. Research it.

What a couple of monsters her parents were. To discard a child because she was born without legs is sickening to me. I see the father died of cancer. Karma. The mother probably isn't far behind.

if ur family give up the baby for adaption and never looked back,i don't think that, that child is welcome to this family anymore.

All of you passing judgement on the parents have no idea what was going on with them at that time. And if a biological parent is unable or unwilling to commit to a disabled child, then put them up for adoption. I'm sick and tired of people thinking that biology automatically means love, it doesn't. I've also had enough of people acting as though adopted kids aren't their parents "own" children. They are. Your family, no matter whether it's biological, adoptive or through friendships, is whomever gives you unconditional love, support and has your back through the good times as well as the bad. Dominique Moceanu's sister obviously grew up with PARENTS that gave her that unconditional love and support, so her biological parent's decision was the right one. Caring for a person with a disability can be stressful, both emotionally and financially, and some people can handle it and others can't. So if you didn't walk in her biological parent's shoes then stop pretending you know what they were going through.

One thing not mentioned, In places like Romania if your child is talented at the level she was, the parents turned the child over to the state and her trainers and she lived there and not at home and rarely saw them for quite a while. I can understand why she never saw her mother pregnant.
12:24 PM on 08/13/2013
I checked wiki and it says that the parents were from Romania, but she was born in and trained in the US.

there is on every topic on huffpost. the topic could be about fleas, leaves, a piece of plastic, an ice cube....you will find more negative than positive. people love throwing stones. especially when it's about someone they don't know, never laid eyes on, aren't related to, live in a different state and you can't put your hands on them because they're behind a computer. I stopped getting mad. I let them run off with the mouth and take care of it the correct way.
