Thank you, President Obama, for sticking to your principles (unlike the Teapublicans) and bringing about this favorable result,

Wrong. Obama supporters will see it as an Obama win, those who don't like him will see it as another failure. It is another Rorschach test to distract the masses from the ultimate uselessness of our governmental system.

Except that Kerry proposed this before the current ratcheting up. And therefore Russia and Putin were pushed into accepting it.

But by all means, keep idolizing KGB Putin, comrade.

Kerry was still talking about strikes until the Russians came out with the talking points today and now they are doing a 180. This has been completely orchestrated by the Russians as a consolation prize. Don't be a fool.

guess someone played the Omar Kadhafi death video for Assad.
05:30 PM on 09/09/2013
This should work. Kerry stated today something just like that.

Right..I wonder if when Pres. obama met with Putin last week if he asked him to propose the idea..

This doesn't make any sense. Syria is okay with putting their chem weaps under the control of an organization that believes it has the moral and humanitarian obligation to destroy them? What is "control"? Fixed video surveillance? A squadron of blue helmets that can simply be pushed aside when Assad wants to use the weapons? Periodically counting the weapons to see if Assad has used any in the meantime? Wouldn't it be more productive to just allow the UN to decide what happens next regarding the Syrian leadership?

Let's all pray this plan works and that Assad becomes sensible his military stay in their place and we can find a way to wind down the civil war that is tearing Syria apart. Over 100,000 deaths and millions of refugees seems insurmountable, but one small step between the US and Russia will bring us closer to the turmoil we'll see when the 20 or so groups fighting for power start murdering others even more than they are now.
05:01 PM on 09/09/2013
Good job Russia. This is a good development!
05:00 PM on 09/09/2013
The President should enlist Dennis Rodman as Secretary of State . He might just pull off a peaceful settlement between us Korea, Syria and maybe Iran.
04:53 PM on 09/09/2013
Dear President Putin,

Thanks for all your hard work on this Syria thing. You really knocked it out of the park. It appears that Russia is ready to play in the Diplomatic Big Leagues. So, it is with great pleasure that we declare that the world's new Traffic Cop is you guys. From now on you guys can put ships with supplies underway when there is a drought, a earthquake, a tsunami, etc. You can also take over dealing out all that foreign aid money. Anytime there's a disturbance between two different nations and/or ethnic groups, it can be you and your military that responds to fix it all.

We've been doing it for far too long now. We can certainly use the break. But we're quitting mainly because our country is selfish and uncaring. Pictures of dead kids had no effect on US citizens. Everyone said "It's not our problem, we weren't attacked." A small group of people in our military said that they would refuse to follow any order that involved Syria... They said that while wearing their uniform and hiding their face. And wow, when that happens, it's really time for a new pitcher to take over. So comrade, have fun with the whole "making the world safe" thing. I'm sure you'll do just fine. If you have any problems, don't call us. America doesn't give a damn anymore.
05:40 PM on 09/09/2013
You expected Americans and our troops to applaud Obama's plan to aid and protect muslim terrorists in Syria? You thought the pictures of the dead kids the muslim terrorist cowards are known for hiding behind would bring our sympathy? Dead muslims makes us smile not get upset. In fact I'd like to see more film of them dying in agony.

Obama shouldn't agree to place Syria's chemical arms under international control, but place under United States control instead.
04:58 PM on 09/09/2013
Oh yeah....and under who's control will the next batch be under? The batch that will take a few days to produce.
05:00 PM on 09/09/2013
Why would Syria do that? Russia's proposal clearly stated "international control" not US control! US can't control everything in this world!
12:49 AM on 09/10/2013
Fuck Russia! They're lucky Reagan was nice enough to let them stick around after the USSR was no more.

After reading some comments and thinking over the past weeks events..can it be? Obama had a plan all along, which used the world and US political scene to reach this outcome? Or was this a happy accident? (I still think this will eventually fail, like it did in Iraq) Hopefully, in 30-40 years the truth will be known.
05:21 PM on 09/09/2013
The truth is easy---Putin smart---Obama stupid...anymore questions?

LOL They already admitted that Kerry's comments were off the cuff.

I'm sure had it been a plan Hillary wouldn't have given credit to Kerry and the Russian....yet no mention of O.
